Hesitation at WOT

2008 Mazdaspeed3
I just got a 2008 mazdaspeed3 with 16k miles on it and the past few days it started acting up at WOT. It doesn't happen every time, but most of the time, when the revs get up to around 4-5k, the engine or turbo(not sure which) seems like it just shuts off for a split second then jerks back to life and resumes the climb to 6k rpm without further issue until I shift and it repeats for the next gear. Any idea what's going on and what I can do to fix it? Many thanks. The only mod that's on it that I know of is a Short Ram Intake.

If its cold out (which I know it is even in sc), you might be hitting boost cut. Or you could be getting knock followed by a big amount of retarded timing

Yeah it did seem to start happening when it got cold. What can be done about the boost cut if that's what it is? Thanks

There are aftermarket add-ons and programmers that can help, but realize its a safety function built into the car

"Boost cut defender" is one thing, cobb ap may help with this, hypertech does not, a MAP clamp may help with this. Just do a search here of "boost cut," you'll get results

Better yet, do a google search including the term "boost cut" and "mazdas247." Works better than the search function on here

So just having a SRI could be affecting the boost levels enough to engage the boost cut? I had seen some of the threads about it but everyone I saw was running more mods than just a SRI. Thanks for your help
