I just started to have some difficulties with my 87 and the thing is that every time i try starting it up the battery seems like it dead and it shouldn't be, because it's a brand new battery, witch has been in the car for 2 1/2 days now. Anybody know whay this may be happenning? thanks for your replys

Bad Alternator? Solenoid? Tested it with a voltmeter? What exactly does it do when you turn the ignition?

the thing is that i have to jump start it sometimes and other times it takes time to start it up. Like i have to turn the key several times but it seems a if the battery has no juice at times. And the alternator is good as well as the starter so i have no clue whay it started doing this.

Hmm, I don't know, I still don't understand what is happening when you turn the key. It turns over normally, but engine won't start? It turns over but very slowly? The solenoid clicks, but doesn't turn over? Abslutely nothing happens? Are your lights dim? Does it run fine once it is started, or does it ever die after starting?

Maybe your new battery is defective? (shrug)
I once had a problem with my alternator, and I almost replaced the whole thing, but when I got under the car to swap it out, I realized the problem was from a wire going to the alternator that had corroded and burnt in two from the high resistance. So old wiring could be a problem too.

sounds like you have a drain... Something is staying energized when the key is off.... You need to track down the drain.... Do you have a multimeter? Do you know how to do this? If you don't, I'd highly recommend taking the car to a professional....

I found out what the problem was. I'm not very sure what it's called but the fuses that sit under the hood on the left side behind the battery, well theirs a wire that goes to the battery, Alt. and starter it was loose and that is why my battery wouldn't stay charged.

thanks for all who helped me out

Haha, see, what'd I say about the alternator wiring...damn I'm good.

hold on so you are saying that, the wire that hooks up up to the fuse box is from the alt.

No, I thought you were the one that said that...

I don't know the wiring specifics of your car, I was just saying, if you have a new battery and a working alternator, but your battery is not being charged, then wiring could be a likely source of your problem.

Anyways congrats on getting your car back in running condition.(thumb)

Yeah, 4 out of 5 electrical problems are as simple as a bad connection or loose wire. Always best to check that out first.
