2010 Mazda3 S Hatch
I was washing my car and cleaning under the hood with low pressure. I have covered alternator, battery, MAF, excepts spark plug areas.
and when I started my car, engine was shaking but within few seconds, it went back to normal.
and I let my car sit about few hours
later, I was on my way to pick up friend, but when I stopped at signal my car was shaking and all of sudden I get check engine light .
however, it was 5PM so there's no technician at dealer and have to wait until monday.
but one of guy at dealer told me engine is probably misfiring.
he was trying to blame it to CAI I have and asking me if I have any other aftermarket electrical system, but I told him no.
do you guys think it's causing because water might went into plugs?
I'm so frustrated, and my warranty just expired 1000 miles ago...

you're screwed.

just kidding. pull your plugs to see if they are wet. if they are, dry them.

nope, I have covered intake and filter areas...
so you guys think it's spark plugs? if I dry them it will be alright?
my car is currently at dealer right now... I will probably pick it up tomorrow to see if that's the problem.
but I'm afraid to drive them...
btw, thanks for the quick reply guys!!!

I've washed my engine bay twice as well as my mustang, never covered anything and never had a problem. That is weird. But it sounds like you might have gotten water into your intake somehow.

how? I covered areas with towels and covered MAF with plastic bag...
if so, what can I do to fix it?

Drive like a mad man and burn off all the water!! haha.... j/k..... if you got water in your engine block your screwed!!...... nah, it should be ok..... how bad does it shake?

hmm...how should I explain this...
it shakes like if engine going to shut off...
it produce noise like do..doom...do...doom... constantly..

Its misfiring then sound like..... must be the plugs or electrical..... is it possible you got water mixed in the fuel somehow?

what do you mean by electrical and water mixed in the fuel?
my car is at dealer right now... do you think it will be dried by tomorrow when i pick it up?

Well, i'm not an expert but since it occured right after you sprayed water in th engine area it could be one of many factors and hard to pinpoint. Just guessing I would think it could be one of these factors.

1. Spark Plugs got wet and not sparking correctly.
2. Water in the air intake
3. Water mixed in the fuel (unlikely but who knows)
4. Something else electrical is wet

Best bet is to let the dealer find out whats wrong. Just tell them it rained hard one day and you went through a puddle and it started. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

no, you were really helpful.
I'm just worried that my dealer would give me crap about my intake system

get them to print out the obdII CEL reading. or at least have them show you what the computer says. if they can prove it's your intake, then they can give you ####. if not, they can't say a damn thing. don't let the bastards pin you with something like the intake. it's a very minor mod.

Hey I get no thanks!! hahaha...j/k I didn't do anything....

But yea, if they don't warrantee it just for the intake tell them your going to talk to Mazda USA about it and how unhappy you are with the dealers service...you'll see how fast they change their minds...hahha

1. Pull spark plugs and possibly dry them if they are wet.
2. Since you covered it, it shouldn't be at fault
3. The fuel that you buy is already contains water so that's not it
4. Try getting one of those blowers and trying to dry everything up...

When I washed my 323 really hard, the car wouldn't start at all!! after a day it was like it was new again
