help with engine pricing

im in the market for a motor for my p5. there is a local guy on craigs list that is selling mazdaspeed protege motor with oem turbo and transmission. all i want is the motor and he still has it, he said make me a offer. sooo what should i offer him, should i offer him more if its already out, or should i offer less if i have to take it out, i diont know the milage but lets pretend its decent lol. help me out. im hoping around 400-500

Its worth with turbo probably like 600 salvage yard but do yourself a favor if its in the car, grab the intercooler hot and cold pipes, radiator and steal the ECU good swap into a 5

+1 one on that get everything you can sell what you don't need. Offer him 400-500 see what he says tell him your in a bind for cash. If he laughs go from there just be diplomatic about it. He may be wanting to get rid of it and that is a good price for him.

ok update. im going to check the car out tomo. it has 63k on odo, completely stock 2003 mazdaspeed protege. it was tboned. i asked if i could hear it run and he said no because the fuel lines are f'd, sooo any tips on the motor on how i could test it because i make a offer??? the dude doesnt know anything about the car so maybe it will be a good score.
