Help Wiring Radar to Sunroof

Hey Guys,

I am not so good at wiring but I do want to hardwire my radar detector to a Sunroof wire. Its the closest to where I need to hang my detector and I figure it will be on when the car is and off when the car is off. I have the correct wiring kit which has a fuse. Any ideas as to which wire is the positive wire for the sunroof? Should I assume its Red? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have spent a while searching around in fourms and the rest of the internet but to no avail.

Cheers, Craig

Just because it's red doesn't mean it's power. You want a 12volt ignition wire anyways so when you shut the car off the detector goes off too. There should be a harness that connects to the motor for the sunroof. If you get some sort of Voltmeter check with the car turned on, when you find a source, check if it still spits power when the cars off on the same wire, if it doesn't then it's a switch powered wire.

thanks. i guess it might be easy to just find the ignition wire below the steering column and run the wire up the a-pillar. this is the greatest fourm i have found for any topic. thanks again.

That's alternative. I'm going to run mine from the roof panel to the passenger side panel through the glovebox and splice into the cigarette lighter.

I figured the ignition switch would have easier access and thus would require less disasembly. I really wanted something near the sunroof so I could run the wire over the head liner, drill a hole in the visor clip and run the wire out there for a clean install and an easy mount to hang the detector from the visor. I am up in Canada so I need to be able to take the thing down in seconds. with visor I can always say I was grabing my ownership.
