Help, Whinning and grinding noise

Hi, I own a 2001 Mazda Mp3. When I bought the car i could hear the transmission whine at 80km/h+ since last week the noise was at every gear around 3000rpm+ since this morning i still hear the whine but it is also grinding.

When i maintain the gas pedal you hear the wine and when i release the pedal its grinding ans when i presse the clutch every noise stop. Exept when I bring the shifter near the second gear, just before shifting completly its grinding a bit and when the shifter is in 2nd gear it stop until i release the clutch pedal ..

I have read a lot on the forum but nothing like this ... can anyone helps ?

Is my probleme between the tranny and the engine or in the tranny ?

the whinning sound is just like a supercharger ... not that lound but same type of whining and the griding is not like when you miss your shift but more like a cv joint dying. hope it help

i think my 02 p5 manual is doing the same thing, its getting to be annoying, when on gas it kind of sounds a small rattle, when engine breaking it sounds like whining (like water pump going bad), when clutch in or in neutral (also when revving) there is no sound

I'm reasonably sure the whining during engine braking is normal.

I have a 03 P5 5-speed that is acting similarly, without the grinding noise though. It whines when cruising in 5th at freeway speeds between 60mph and 70mph. The whine stops if I accelerate or decelerate, but reappears if I maintain a steady speed. Is there a common failure point on these manual transmissions? BTW it has 97,000 miles and I have changed the transmission fluid two weeks ago.

it sounds like a bad trans. or a long shot would be the pilot bearing. the whining while engine breaking is normal my mp3 does it too. if it whines when your on the gas it could be a vaccume leak i have it too but not all the time

Yeah. It's really hard to pinpoint where it is coming from. Sound tends to bounce and reverberate especially at freeway speeds with road noise. (Love these cars, but they aren't exactly quiet inside...)
I was hoping it was only a wheel bearing...but I'm probably not that lucky...
It sounds like the cost of rebuild is about the same as replacing the the whole transmission. What is a good source for parts or replacement transmissions?

its probably either the pilot bearing or more likely the differential bearings. sorry

Would a bad pilot bearing be making noise while driving on the freeway with your foot off the clutch? Wouldn't the transmission input shaft and crank be moving at the same speed (locked together by the clutch)?
I suppose a totally trashed pilot bearing may allow play...wouldn't that also affect clutch action and feel?

its probably the differential bearings. although i suppose a bad hub bearing may also do it but i would think that would be much more noticable. i did have to replace my intermediate shaft after 210k because it was causing some issues. a video with the sound would make it easier to diagnose.
