Just getting ready for spring/summer time. I'm about to get a porter cable 7424 polisher.

Need some help deciding what to get while I'm at it as far as product and accessories.

Wax
currently using P21S, but now want a liquid wax. Maybe Pinnicle liquid soveriegn?

Sealent
Klasse High gloss sealent?

Polish
Currently have P21S paintworks cleaner, maybe I should try Klasse AIO?

Swirl remover
No clue what to look for here

Also I'm not sure what polisher pad kit to get to use with each of these products.

Thanks

There's a site with more information that you can ever use called Autopia. I've been reading and reading and reading and have spent WAY too much money because of it!

Here's my 2 cents:

First, for sweet deals on Porter Cable combo packages, go to w w w d o t a u t o g e e k d o t n e t (not sure if they're still link Nazi's). They have lots of different packages to choose from. Edge and Lake County pads are popular choises.

No real experience with liquid wax, always use paste, so I can't help out there. Will say that the PC makes applying paste wax super fast and simple, so don't steer away from the paste just because of the PC.

I've had really good success with the Poorboy's line of swirl removers (the SSR line). Never had to go all the way to SSR3, and rarely use SSR2.5. My go-to combo is SSR2 with an orange pad (light/medium cut) on the PC, speed 6. The SSR2 doesn't dust much, and doesn't leave a haze, so you don't need to use a lighter grade to smooth that out. I've also used the Sonus Swirl Remover with the special pad with the ingrooved rings, but I personally like the SSR much better.

After getting rid of the majority of swirls, I've been using something called Pink Moose - it's actually 2 ClearKote products - Vanilla Moose and Red Moose Glaze - mixed in a 50/50 ratio. The Vanilla has a very light, and the Red Moose has no cutting ability, it makes your paint nice and deep (better on dark colors, however). It takes care of any remaining little marring and preps the paint in one step.

For a sealant I've been using Poorboy's EX-P. No complaints with it at all! The EX-P is synthetic ... if you want a sealant with Carnauba in it, they have one called EX.

There's a guy in the next city over (Bob, great guy!) who has an online store (danase dot com) and if I order in the morning, he'll deliver it that evening. I've been lookin' out for a brother using his products to show support. I just got some of his Danase Speed Glaze to try out. Smells good, and I've heard good things about it. It's an added step after polish, and before wax/sealant just to add depth and shine. I'm pretty sure he deals with Chemical Guys for his branded products, but it's not the exact same stuff. His quick detailer is killer (shameless plugs for Bob).

I also just got some Klasse AIO (also from Danase) the other day, and am planning on trying that out on my family's cars (the ones who don't care as much as I do about how they look). If this works as well as people say, I might be using it more and the SSR less. The one thing I love about all the Poorboys products, tho, is that you can use it in direct sunlight, and that's perfect because I don't have a garage!

Think about using quick detailer, too. Works great when your car is clean, but just needs a little boost to make it glow!

Oh yeah, when you read about Optimum No Rinse wash, believe every good thing you hear about it. Simply put, it's that good.

I know I rambled, sorry about that. There's so much data to process about detailing cars that it makes my head spin! Here's the plan for when the weather here gets good enough for me to do a proper detail on my MS3:

wash
clay
wash again
SSR2 via PC
Pink Moose
Danase Speed Glaze
Couple layers of Carnauba wax (I have Pinnacle Souveran, Chiemical Guys 50/50, and Soft99 Premium all to try out this summer!)
Possibly a layer of Poorboys EX-P
Danase Speed Shine as a QD

Can't wait for spring!

you put your sealant on top of the carnuba?? I always thought it should be the other way around..... thats how i did it anyway.

Here's a quote from Autogeek in the description for EX-P:

"It also means that EX-P plays well with other productscar buffs use it as a topper over traditional waxes and sealants to further enhance the surface."

If you want to know the truth, I applied it under my carnauba. I liked how it looked, but according to the pros, it should go on top. I'm guessing that's because it has a greater durability (up to 6 months) than the carnauba wax, and will help to keep it looking better, longer. YMMV

hmmm. I guess if it 'plays well with other products' then its all good. I wouldn't put my zaino over my natty's though for fear of getting rid of the natty's (even though the Z products don't contain cleaners).

Rally ninja, just curious if there is a particular reason you want a liquid wax?? Personally i love the natty's blue paste, but i haven't tried out too many other good carnubas to compare. Although to me, for the price, i don't see how it can get much better than the natty's.

As for sealant, i've only ever used zaino but i don't see any reason to switch, i'm completely happy with it.

Only reason for the liquid wax is cause of the Porter cable. I've been acused of spending more time with the car than the lady and I wanted the PC to get the job done fast. Otherwise I'd stick to the p21s.

I like Schlegel pads. I used #2004 to get rid of some hood swirl marks with Meguairs #82 swirl free polish.

I think I will try out the EX-P. People seem to like it.
Here is the setup I'm thinking of putting together right now:

That's a pretty good start. I'd also look into a detailing spray, which can be very helpful if you happen to work the polish too long and it gums up on the paint.

Also make sure you have at least 10 high-quality MF towels for this process. There's no sense in polishing the paint if you've only got crappy towels to use, and will end up scratching the paint over again as you wipe off the polish residue.

Man I think i'm now have a full blown addiction with this thing now. I went over to autopia and it seems like people love the Werkstatt prime and AJ. Anyone with experience with that stuff? can AJ be put on with a PC?

woohoo I just went over to lowe's and they had the PC 7336 or something like that for $42 on clearance!!!!!!!! I snagged the last one there with a big smile on my face!!!:D

$42...s*** I'd buy a backup for that price!

Autopia is a fine site for information, but realize that as with any site, there is always hype about new products. Don't get caught up in that, or you'll end up surpassing my $3000+ collection.

Kinda had the feeling that the Jeffs werkstatt was internet hyped up product. Though it is made by the same carlack people who make klasse.

I may pick up the display model PC and see how much they will sell that for lol. Considering I was about to shell out 130 for the 7242. $42 was a steal.

I see your a 4star user. Do you like that sealant over WG, Poorboys, Pinnicle?

The 4Star UPP and Wolfgang sealant are very similar. I don't know that I really have a preference between the two. The Poorboy's sealants never impressed me a whole lot, and I don't believe Pinnacle makes a sealant at this time. Their waxes are top-notch though, as well as Poorboy's Nattys Wax.

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that EX-P should be applied on top of a carnauba. Polymer sealants don't bond well over waxes, so I have no idea why Autogeek would recommend such a process. The first time I ever applied a sealant and a wax in succession was with EX-P and Pinnacle Paste Glaz on my Maxima. I put the Paste Glaz on first, waited a day, and then applied the EX-P (the car sat in the garage between applications). When I pulled it out in the driveway, it was not as slick as I had expected, so I was a bit disappointed. I then realized my mistake of applying the sealant on top of the wax, so I decided to wash the car and QD it. When washing, the beading action was uneven across the car. It was an overall negative experience, and I would not do that process again.

Sweet Sweet. I just ordered everything today. Hopefully I'll have it all here before the weekend starts.

I went with:
Werkstatt prime strong and AJ
Pinnicle Sov.
XMT #1 and 3 swirl remover
and Edge 2k pad kit

you will like Jeff's prime and AJ. AJT is awesome.
Why did you want a liquid wax? if you want the best look with awesome durability spend the extra $$ and get pianncle sov paste wax. there is not much better. p21s is also an awesome line. it looks better on lighter color cars than dark colors. however don't waste your money on most of the actual p21s line. get the s100 line which is WAY cheaper. it is the exact same product, but it is marketed to bikers. you can pick it up at any Harley store.
XMT is also great. but unless you have some really bad paint issues you don't need the #3. you will better served with the #2 for average scratches. you need to be careful with how much paint you are removing...and #3 is the strongest in the XMT line.
IMO you can't get much better products than OPT (optimum polymer technologies). i use all of there line. You get more of the product and it usually costs less than the others. if you like klasse AIO you will love OPT poli-seal. this stuff will amaze you. OPT products don't dust nearly as much as others. I like XMT but it does dust up. OPT won't.

the edge pads are ok. but the best product IMO is lake country pads.

also get a good QD. again the only QD i will recommend is OPT. they make a product called ONR (optimum no rinse). you can use this stuff to wash, clay lube, and QD. it is the best QD i have ever used.

well that is just my .02 if you are interested. have fun with it.

another note for OPT products is that you will use far less product to get the job done than with other products. also working time with any OPT polish or compound is far superior to anything else out there.

I'll have to check out OPT on my next order I guess.

I went with the liquid so that I could use the PC. Wanted to do things quicker, thats why I went with that.
