Answered this by myself for others to reference. The rubber seal was stuck with the piston because of the rust. Just clean the rust between the seal and the piston and try to detach the seal from the piston using a screw driver. You can spray a little wd-40. Someone says the wd-40 will dry quickly and is not harmful to the rubber seal.
