Help Me Decide: CX-5 vs. CR-V

...and that middle fold-down piece. You can have two people in the back, and still fold down the middle to carry a long item. It's a nice touch that is often not appreciated enough.

One of my requirements for a new vehicle is being able to carry my wife and two kids on weekend ski trips. The fold down middle seat means I can throw the skis in the car instead of using a roof rack carrier, which is a BIG plus in favor of the CX-5.

Most likely. A certain someone will be trying to preach the Gospel of the 2018 CRV to anyone cross shopping a CX-5 and Rav4.

Thankfully he'll be over in the Toyota forums trying to convince those guys to join in with him. Watch out when the next Rav4 is .25 seconds slower to 60 than the current gen. Those '18 R4 owners are going to hear an earful about their cars being slow and turd-like. Haha #jokes

It's in the height and depth. But yeah, a lot of that space is not practical unless you stack to the ceiling.

Just checked capacities here (we use VDA standard):

2017 CX-5: rear seats up and to tonneau (cargo) cover 442 Litres
rear seats folded down and up to roof 1342 Litres

2017 CRV: rear seats up and to roof 522 Litres
rear seats folded down and up to roof 1084 Litres

Note There are no figures for CX-5 up to roof with rear seats up as all models come with tonneau (cargo) cover

The 40/20/40 is SOOOO much more useful.

Cx5 cargo area looks better to the eye and on the stats. Significantly.

So per VDA standard (wtf that is) CX-5 has 25% more max space? Interesting, I strongly disagree with that standard:) If the CR-V has one major thing going for it its maxed out space potential. Numbers flipped perhaps?

Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the brake pedal in the CX-5 so one doesn't need to press it down so far to brake? I wasn't a fan of how far I had to press down on the brake pedal to stop the car during my test drive. This is my only complaint about the CX-5 and the only thing I prefer the CR-V over (With the exception of the optional grey leather seats. Parchment in the CX-5 may be too white for my liking.). I have a month left with my current vehicle, so I will need to do another test drive of both soon to make my final decision. Which ever one feels more like home is the winner.

They don't come with adjustable pedals I'm afraid.

Been on vacation. Miss me? 🤣
Anyway, I do agree the carpets and floor mats do seem to grab and hang on to stuff in my CX-5. The Mazda bed liner thing is a savior here. That's a quality accessory. You should get that for the hay.
I use a lint brush to clean the matts. Lol
Agree that hatch space isn't a deal breaker either way. CX5 hasn't left me needing anymore space.

Wondered why it was so quiet (whistle)

I am just going to be happy I don't have to half climb into the cargo bay to retrieve stuff right up the back like I do with my current Mazda6.

Also measured the cargo area of the CX-5 last Saturday and will fit my lawn mower in perfectly. Current opening aperture of the Mazda6 won't even allow me to fit it in (mower is to tall/open cavity is too small)

The CRV measurement between wheel wells is just less than 42". And measurement from from very back of carpet in rear to front seat back is 70".
I just measured the '17 CX5 and those same measurements are 41" and 69".
CX5 has more width room above the wheel wells. Height is obviously more on the CRV.
Actual usable space is probably about the same unless you stack small boxes all the way to the ceiling frequently.

I'm not talking pedal distance; my legs are plenty long enough to reach the pedals. I am just curious if I can shorten the distance I have to push the pedal to get activation of the brakes.
