Help Me Decide: CX-5 vs. CR-V

I'm sorry, but they look more or less the same to me.

Tune? Pretty sure the average CRV buyer would not care to tune it. If you were a Honda salesmen you'd be a pretty crappy one LOL. You tell em' about the cupholders, CVT, and they should get one because every one else does. I mean that's why you're here right? To tell folks the CRV should be the only purchase they should ever make. no matter what.

Mango on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire:

What is the largest mammal in the world?

A. Blue Whale
B. Brown Bear
C. CRV
D. Horse

Ummm I know this. The answer is C. CRV. Final answer.

It doesn't need a tune. How much work do you think a CX5 will take to lop a second off the 0-60 and 1/4 mile? CRV owners don't have much to worry about in the zoom-zoom department from Mazda.

My neighbours, one of them has a 18 year old boy, other has a 13 year old.
Today the 18 year old won a running race over the other 13 yo.

18 yos father is celebrating like crazy.

Replace 13 and 18 yos with CX5 and CRV. Have fun.

It's an appliance that can be tuned for more power and performance, not that I would but at least the option is there. No one is saying it is a race car. Never did. Lets not spread fake news...

I know the lackluster performance of the CX-5 in comparison to the CRV is making you guys salty, you'll just have to deal with it. Honda has managed to increase power, handling and fuel efficiency while Mazda has somehow gone backwards. That's not opinion, THAT'S FACT.

And we can talk about looks/style all we want but we all know style is subjective. Besides, what does it say about the CX-5 that not just Motor Trend but a few other online auto publications think the 'butt ugly wide behind' appliance/box on wheels CRV is a better overall vehicle than the CX-5? Pretty sad considering most of these car companies are full on enthusiasts, they're supposed to pick the CX-5. The fact that they are not is very telling.

Lackluster. Before you get ahead of yourself here Mango, the line in the review was that they thought "It’s a narrow margin of victory". Don't try to play this like some big gap.

I don't give a crap about a slightly faster 0-60. You know why? The CVT takes any fun out of it.

Unfortunately here, age has nothing to do with it, they compete in the same class no matter the circumstance.

sigh. one last time.

There are ECU tunes available for the CX5. FACT. I'm just not interested.

You claim a tune on the CRV will therefore make it a considerably faster machine... and blab on and on about 0-60, 40-60, laps around the figure 8, etc etc FACT

I didn't buy my CX5 for "performance".... FACT

Motor Trend Motor Trend Motor Trend... don't care. say it till you're blue in the face.

Like others, I don't really know why you're here, but am definitely leaning towards the conclusion you are a sleezy Honda salesman looking to get a sale or two from a competitor.

And you're obviously the type of personality that cannot step back and see how you come across to others. The FACT so many members ask how to block you out entirely should at least give you a glue that you are an obnoxious tool. FACT.

kisses and hugs my lad.

Really the only decent angle for the CRV to me. Still pales to the CX5 obviously.

Odd. The CX5 was the only car that I test drove that I didn't know anything about yet I think it's fast enough for me. Not sure why you would assume something so ridiculous. #littlemansyndrome ?

I actually like Mango, but the same goes for you, banjo. He brings more substance than most that post here.

Peeps can block me too if they want...

One of these things is not like the others...

Yep, basically said that earlier. It got avoided, except for the chrome, and that fits right in as well.

Oh come-on guys. 3 have basically the same kind of styling design framework. The CX-5 at least looks a bit different.

Plus any performance (minimal) gain the CR-V gets is immediately killed by a CVT for me. Congrats Mango. You got the faster....but more boring car. ;)

Edit: And keep in mind that the review says that "Its a narrow margin of victory". The way Mango goes on here, you'd think it's some huge wide gap.

If the Honda didn't have the CVT and was an auto I might be salty. The CVT alone makes me laugh at your attempts to get us to like your CR-V Mango. I couldn't be any less salty.

And considering this is a Mazda forum, I am now convinced you are a Honda salesman with too much time on your hands.

Move over NSX, there's a new speed demon on the block and it goes by CRV! ;)

I'm not sure if I should be happy for Honda for figuring out how to break the 8 second mark, or angry at Mazda, or just not really give an eff. I feel like I should care but the car really feels fast enough.
But lets continue (deadhorse)

If I understand correctly, the change in 0-60 between 16 and 17 is only relevant to people who would drive with traction control disabled. I'm pretty sure I would leave traction control on if I had a 16, in which case the change doesn't really matter.

Yeah I was being totally sarcastic. I'm getting tired of hearing about 0-60 times.

Lol, one of them looks like it's about to go to war with optimus prime, and the other one looks like my car.

Nelson, I think you need to see the CRV in 4K to really appreciate its beauty. ;) Honda did Reinvent Value!

None of the 4 you've posted are beautiful to me, however, the CX-5 definitely looks the best out of all of them...

I agree, but they are very similar. The CX-5 is definitely sleeker, though.

Agreed, and as I have stated several times before, the CX-5 does have a nice exterior and even better interior than the CX-5, but for me that's about it in terms it being better. The CRV trumps it in pretty much everything else, and when I'm spending 30k+ on something I want it to do more than just 'look good'.
