Help me decide between CX-5 and Sportage

Does Hyundai/Kia source or make most parts in-country or from nearby trading partner countries? Just curious in light current world news events....

People keep bagging on kia, but they forget how they accept Hyundai pretty well and actually even look up to lexus! Short memories...

They make a few vehicles beyond that category. Same as mazda. Mazda makes the miata, they have their saloon and sports coupe.

Mazda used to make more (RX, people mover, coupes to name a few etc) but considering their size now, they can only do so much. They are smaller than Hyundai/Kia

In what regard? I'm not following. I bought an Acura in 2000 when I could have bought anything, and was really happy with it.
Each to their own :) European vehicles were ahead of them, sometimes by a large margin. Not anymore. If there is a gap is not very much. All I am saying is they used to be behind (read many a review that said this) but times have changed.

So you mean behind with respect to public regard?

Yeah, I've had a couple of Hyundai's now, and most parts are branded Hyundai/KIA, made in Korea. Anything that isn't branded that way is branded just Hyundai, Made in korea. Have yet to come across an OEM part that wasn't made in Korea on them actually. Mind you, I only ever had little things like under-engine covers and a couple of other plastic bits that broke over time.

But I do remember the short block that I had replaced in my Genesis Coupe (was a modified and tuned auto-x and track daily, so it seen some abuse :P) took around 6 weeks to get because it had to be shipped from Korea.

You come into a Mazda CX-5 group and ask for help to choose between a CX-5 and a Kia? What medication are you on? Why don’t you go to a butchery and ask to buy some salad?

To be fair, he posted in a Kia forum, too.

Also agree with people here that Kia (nor Hyundai) was never on my list of possibles.
Mazda, Jeep, Subaru

Gotta' give the Kia Peeps credit. Most are pretty respectful of the Mazda...

With comments like:
"That said, they are both fine cars and you won't make a mistake either way."
" as rvoll says, you won't make a mistake either way."
"You can't really go wrong with either one, just choose the one that feel more comfortable to you."

So... OP: have you decided?

I had the Tucson on my list. Honestly if I was just going for value and not for the driving feel/aesthetic I would have bought it. I personally ruled out the Kia because it just looks weird. That entire front end perplexes me.

I think at the end of the day, depends on what you want.

Kia has some features that the Mazda doesn't have and vice versa.

Comfort is subjective and can be either.

However, if you value superior handling and overall connection to the road, the CX-5 is the clear winner.

I actually found no difference in handling with its sister car the Tucson, I test drove the 182 diesel automatic, the Tucsons brakes also seem much keener than the CX-5.

Back in 2015 it was only the interior finish that fell behind the CX-5, the lack of discounts due to it being new, and I didn't like the oversized IMO wheel arch plastic protectors. Or the poor emissions and higher VED for the UK.
But I liked the 8" screen, and the full sized ALLOY spare wheel.
