Help me choose Coilovers !!!!

Ok so I have read several threads on coilovers, now I ask for you guys opinion on what the best set-up for me will be.

I do some track racing but mostly I visit the dragstrip. Here are the two choices I have narrowed it down to:

1. JIC FLTA2 Series - Link -

2. KW Variant 2 - Link -


I do have some questions for those who have installed them. I know that the JIC's had some issues with clunking in the rear, have those been addressed??

DO the KW's have the same issues with clunking?

Has anyone installed the KW's yet and what do you think?

Let me know what you guys think about these coilovers.

I'm not familiar with the KWs, but my FLTA2s never clunked at all.
The only issue I have with them is the fact that my wife drives the P5 a lot and they're a little stiff around town for the baby. I know a couple/few people around here aren't too happy with JICs customer service, but I've never had a problem with mine, so I never had to find out for myself. They're pretty well-made
I don't drag race, so I can't comment on what they feel like at the strip, but around the corners of Laguna Seca, the JICs really came into their own. One of the instructors even commented on how well my car was set up...my set up is basically JIC FLTA2s.

the flt-a2's don't clunk, but on msp's, if you go too low, the drivers side collar will rub against the tire, but only if you're still riding on the stock rims.

the flt-a2's are stiff, i'll tell you that much. they're definitely for race, so if that's your plan, i'd go with them, regardless of the price. sucks for you, too, 'cause i just sold my almost brand new pair of flt-a2's to another msp driver on the board.


not being familiar with the kw's, and being well versed with the flt-a2's, i'd be willing to bet you'd be a lot happier with the jic's than anything else. they're ******* fantastic.

if you don't go with the jic's, why don't you go with the variant3's on the kw's? they're a lot more comparable to the flt-a2's as far as versitility.

Yeah, I bought element.8's coilovers. I'll let you know what I think if you're still deciding next week. Only thing I'm worried about is rubbing, but that can be taken care of with spacers in the rear.

Although I never tested those, this will probably be my next year suspension setup, along with the AWR 21.5mm rear a.-r. bar and if budget is not that tight, upgraded tranny with Mazdaspeed LSD. After all the research I made on the net and through SCC, the A2 are mroe than enough for our excellent handling platform. I may suggest you the less pricey A1 US: Springs rates, camber plates and rear pillow-ball mounts are the same, the just lack the 15 way adj. (5 way) and they are twin-tubes instead of inverted mono... Nearly 1000$ less with tx. here in Mtl!

I got the A2's in. I'll post a review in the near future once everything is worked out, but these things are amazing. The problem is you can't use stock wheels with them without the use of spacers. So if you're planning on running the stock wheels, you'll need spacers. I'm in the process of figuring out exactly how big of a spacer is required, but hopefully I'll know by monday/tuesday. But yeah, these things are amazing for handling. Dunno what they'd do for you in drag racing though, but if you like to turn, these kick ass.

I bought the FLT-A1US, they were $1300 shipped. They only have 5-way adjustability for dampening, I have had them for about 6 months now. The ride is stiff, and I travel some bumpy roads here in the midwest. But I would definatly recoment them. My buddy has the FLTA2's on his Nissan sentra spec-v and he is happy with his kit too. The FLT-A1US's were easy to install too, I dropped my car about 2", I also installed 5mm H&R wheel spacers (A b**** to put in new studs), and I have my stock wheels with nitto neo-gens (wider sidewall). Unless I hit a bump hard or hit a bump around a corner, I almost never have any rubbing.

If you do decide to go with the JIC's, you can talk to Cullen at **********.com, I am about 99% sure that he carries JIC products (even thought they are not posted on his web site) and I know he can get you a good deal too.
