HELP! Auto lock only works sporadically.

So I took my 9 to one of the local Mazda dealers yesterday to handle some minor warranty items before my 3/36 runs out. I asked them to turn on my auto lock feature since it had not been done initially. They did.

Made a few stops before heading home and the auto lock would not turn on. I called the service dept to report it and they said just bring it back in.

So I go back there today and the service writer opens and closes the driver door...it works. Opens and closes it again...it works. Opens and closes it a third time...you guessed it...it did not work!

She calls the service manager over and he gives it a shot. Still wont work. He takes it back to the shop and returns 30 mins later, parks it on the service drive, talks to the service writer and leaves.

The service writer tells me that "something is running interference and preventing the feature from working consistently and that it could be my radar detector." Tried unplugging the radar detector but that was not it.

Another service writer standing nearby stated that he had a similar issue with another CX9 and they had to give up on it.

So I left the dealership with it not working and made a stop at the post office before heading home. Got out and closed the door.....THE DAMN THING LOCKED!

Got home and closed the door and once again......nothing!

What do you guys think?

I posted a similar thread before with intermittent results. Turns out a new FOB battery fixed my problem. My battery was only 4ish months old before replacing before shipping.

First guess is, of course, the button battery inside the fob.
Second guess:
The same sensors and keycard are used in open/close/drive and autolock. It is hard for me to imagine that you could use the keycard to open/close/drive but can't autolock it consistently. If that was the case, I can understand why the service tech gave up. One may need to replace several components (one by one) to nail the culprit down.

Hopefully, it is the button battery, which costs $2.

I had planned on taking it to another dealership to see if they might be familiar with the problem but I will try your inexpensive suggestion first.

Thanks for your input, guys. It really makes the Forum worthwhile.
