2003.5 Laser Blue MSP
Just making a post to say Hello and introduce myself. My name is Adam, from Wichita, KS and I just bought a blue 2003.5 MSP from where I work. It currently has a bad turbo which I'll be getting replaced before anything else, but would also like to do a FMIC and BOV shortly after. The car still runs fine, just doesn't have any boost currently :(... Looking forward to being a mazda driver now!

welcome......just look in the FS threads theres a few turbos for sale now you could probably get a good deal

scratchnsniff has one for $300 which is a good deal. and ive seen it in person and its a good turbo.

and welcome! any pics of the car? blue would be my second choice of color

Are you 100% sure that the turbo is bad? The waste gate actuators go bad on these pretty regularly and can fail two different ways. One would be that the waste gate stays closed and the turbo will just build boost until you get fuel cut. The other way they fail is that waste gate stays open and the turbo will not build boost at all. You might want to check that out first before you replace the turbo. The way to test the waste gate actuator would be to take the vacuum line off the actuator and blow air into it with a compressor. Watch the arm coming out of the actuator, you should see the arm move when pressure is added. If you hear air leaking through the actuator and/or the arm does not move the actuator is bad. You can get a replacement from ATP turbo. Good luck!

Thank you MX5RACER I'll definitely look into that because it really doesn't seem like it's a bad turbo the way it's acting. That's just what I was told but I think they jumped to a conclusion on it, which is why I bought it for what I feel like was a pretty good deal, knowing it needed fixed.

Post up some pictures. I bought a Laser Blue last year with a blown engine and have been driving the crap out of it ever since.

I haven't been driving the car in fear of really messing something up, but when I did drive it (for only 2 days since I bought it Saturday) it would drive normal but kinda slow like a n/a car and with no boost. I think there are some exhaust leaks also. But then at a random time when I would push the clutch in the rpms dropped to almost nothing and when I pressed the gas it felt like it wouldn't accelerate at all and actually slowed down going up an incline. At that time the check engine light came on and I was able to exit the highway, but by the time I was at a stop light it was running normal again, and normal being without boost..just not messing up basically. It remained "normal" all the way until about a mile from home and the check engine light started flashing so I parked it and haven't driven it since. I scanned the codes last night and got a P0300 and P2006, so I researched those on the forum and made a list of possible causes/fixes and scheduled an appointment to have it diag at the dealership (where I work) on Monday. I really hope someone can get it fixed because it's pretty stressful and annoying.

well P0300 is random misfire, and P2006 is "intake runner stuck"
so sounds like your going to have to pull your intake manifold, or possibly plug it back in if its unplugged, this may take care of the misfire code, if not then plugs/wires/coils, its basically a motto around here they fail religiously, as does everything else ~100k miles including motor mounts, wires, coils, struts, rust sets in about now, hood gets quite a few pebble chips, i had helluva lot of o2 sensor problems with my p5 around this time also. good luck! haha and welcome to the mazdaspeed family!

Ya I'm hoping to get it all running correctly without a lot of fixing unneccesary things first. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the car is like with a little boost! Thanks for all the help guys, I feel welcome!
-- btw mine has 66k miles

Attempting to post a pic.. the only half way decent one I've gotten so far.. I'll be a lot more willing to take pictures when the car is running properly..until then its being punished lol..

welcome.. have fun trying to sell it when you want something faster..

im trying to sell mine, for 5,000 with 90k and no one wants them. sweet.

So the latest news on the problems I've been having is that the turbo does need to be replaced but the wastegate actuator is also needing replaced because it seems to be leaking vacuum which is why the car is running poorly (from what I've been told by the mechanic working on it). My plan is to find a used OEM turbo on here, but I think I'll have to buy the wastegate actuator separately (correct me if I'm wrong somewhere) from atpturbo.com. I'm not sure exactly which one I would need, but the one that I'm thinking is part# ATP-WGT-019.. could anyone verify?
