Hello from Thailand

Hello to all the members. Just bought a 2014 Mazda 3 and thought I'd join this forum. I live in Korat Thailand which is about 3 hours northeast of Bangkok.
I am retired and hail originally from the USA. I have a question about daytime running lights and will also put it in the electronics sub forum.

Here in Thailand there is no requirement for daytime running lights even though if there was it would probably save lives. My question is.
Is there anyway to get the lights that are illuminated in the pic below to come on when you start the car? Now when I put them on I also have tail lights which I do not want lit.

I think the Japanese models don't have DRL too from videos I've seen. I remember when I first test drove the car back in October last year, I remember seeing an option to turn on/off the daytime running lights but never seen it again, so probably can be controlled by software. In daytime running lights mode, the "brow" part of the light is suppose to be brighter too. I know for cars equipped with halogen headlights there is a fuse you can take out to disable the DRL so maybe see if you have a fuse in that spot, see pic below:

i am in Thailand also (Sriracha city) and ordered my Mazda 3 hatch last week. I see that you went pretty black on the tint, what percent did you choose ?

anything you would change about your purchase ?

edhchoe, Things are quite. Nothing new as this is the 13th coup since 1932.

Totantaz, The tint is 60 on the side windows and 40 on the windshield and hatchback window. I would not have changed a thing as I am VERY happy with the car.

lowincah, Well here is a pix of my fusebox. It looks like I am missing one 15amp fuse compared to your pix. I will go out and buy some fuses and put one in the empty slot and see if that works.

Well I didn't have to go out and buy a fuse if I had just looked under the top of the fuse cover for the extra fuses. I put a 15 amp in the vacant slot but it did not help the problem as I still do not have daytime running lights. Back to the drawing board.

You probably need to enable I think, via computer or something. I remember when I test drove the car there was an option to turn DRL on/off in the infotainment system settings. I think it's an old firmware because the car I bought doesn't have that option anymore so probably it's something the dealer has to do.

Got this tip from another M3 owner and it worked for me. Will turn them on or off.

HERE'S HOW TO DO IT:

SETUP:
1) car set to ignition (car is active, but engine is off)
2) press brake pedal down and hold during the whole time
3) parking brake up

START:
you have to do the whole process once you start under 23sec.
4) turn parking light on and off 5 times. on - off - on - off - on - off , etc.
under 2 sec start #5
5) turn hazard light on and off 5 times.
under 2 sec start #6
6) turn parking light on and off 5 times.

DONE:
7) to check if the DRL still comes on, simply disengage the parking brake. If it doesn't come on, then you're done. Otherwise repeat the process again.
