Hello and bigger tire/higher ride question.....

Hello everyone,

First, I am new to the world of Mazda. I just purchased a 2008 Mazda5 Touring. So far, I am loving it and having a lot of fun driving it.

I am also happy to have found this forum as I am the type of person that when I own something I like to find out as much as possible. So thank you up front to anyone that ever answers any of my questions or have already posted information elsewhere.

Now my question. I am a little unhappy with how low the 5 sits. Is there any tire recommendations for giving maybe an inch more clearance without ruining the ride or mpg rating? If anyone has any info or links, please post away.

Thanks!

Tom

What size tire do you have now?

Did the 5 come with 16" or 17" wheels?

One thing you can try is using the Miata tire size calculator.

Just google "Miata tire calculator" and it'll come right up.

You can try different sizes and aspect ratios to get some idea of the different diameters and sidewall height.

That could get you started...you'll prolly still like to hear from anyone who's tried a taller size.

Without changing the stock wheels, you can upsize the factory tires. 205/55-16 to 215/55 16 or even 205/60-16's (a more popular/easier to find size) and 205/50-17 to 215/50-17's.

Much cheaper than springing for new wheels/tires at the same time.

If its a US car, upsize to 215/50-17. The tire is SUPPOSED to be 10mm wider than stock, but it is totally subjective to the brand. But anyway, you will get about 1/4" additional height and the speedo/odometer will be about 1% too slow.
