Height of CX-9 hood...

Hi - Hoping someone can help me with some measurements (I am not close to a dealer, otherwise, I'd do it myself). I am intersted in the height of the CX-9hood. Specifically, a measurement at the front of the car, from the ground to where the hood starts. Also, the height of the hood at the midpoint of the wheel. If I didn't explain this well - maybe it is easier to visualize if I explain why I am asking. I have a shelf in my garage that hangs over the front of the car - so that hood of the car (hopefully) fits under it. Currently, I have a Pilot - and about a foot's worth of the hood fits underneath the shelf before the hood gets to high and hits. I believe the hood of the CX-9 is not as high-off the ground, and am hoping at least a foot of the hood will fit under the shelf.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, I'm not near my CX-9 right now. If you ask a salesman I'm sure they'd be happy to do it for you. They'll jump through many hoops these days to sell you a car.

The CX9 is very different from your Pilot. I am assuming you don't have a 2009.

CX9 has a sloped hood that starts before the hood, as part of the front grill. The front edge of the hood is about 38", and a foot back from the front bumper edge. A foot back from there is 40" The center line of the wheels is actually behind the back edge of the hood in the middle, which is about 42"

This is like comparing a circle to a square, but I hope it helps. Keep in mind, that your Pilot is also a foot shorter then the CX9, so if you have to park under the shelf to fit, the CX9 may not fit at all. I hope it does, though. You're going from a Wal Mart mountain bike to a Tour de France racer. Good luck

CX-9 Sportowner - Thank you a million times for the measurements - you are a life saver. In terms of the extra foot, I saw that, and that is what my concern was based upon (and why I posed the question). We are excited to get the CX-9 - also, I had such a bad experience with the Honda dealer chaning prices on us, I have vowed never to buy another Honda. We were very impressed with the CX-9 and its ride (dramatically better than the old Pilot - never had a chance to compare it to the new one). Thanks again - this was exactly what I needed.

Hope it works. That extra foot (and a lot of other things) make the CX9 a huge improvement, even compared to the new Pilot. The only thing Honda fixed was not having to remove the headrests on the third row. The day they released the new pilot it was at the bottom of it's class.

You should see what Honda and our dealer did to us, and a lot of other CR-V owners. Ugh

Hi Mark,

Just got around to this measurement on my GTS AWD. with 18" Blizzaks on, but with pretty much the same diameter as the stock 20" tires, I measured 46.75". I put a laser level on the highest point on the hood, the edge next to the window and measured the intersection on my garage wall.

46.75" is what I measured.

Thanks, SECX-9 (and again to CX9 SportOwner) - truly appreciated. I will be leasing a black on black CX-9 - should pick it up this weekend. Thanks again for your help with this!

What type of terms did you get? When I bought mine the numbers were ugly.

I'm leasing - and it is ugly (although less ugly than the pilot). From what I understand, almost all of the auto companies have decreased the residual value so that leases prices have gone up signficantly over the last 2-3 years.

Can I ask why you are leasing rather than buying?

And I don't think it matters for your garage space, but my rear hood height is off. It's actually 45". Hope that didn't mess you up.

A few reasons - first is, it keeps my wife happy - she gets a new car every 3 or so years. Second, it keeps my wife happy. Third, it keeps my wife happy. Also, no outlay of cash. Never have to deal with the vehicle being out of the warranty period. Avoid owning a depreciating asset. No out lay of cash for an outright buy (or smaller monthly payments, although you don't end up owning anything). The real reasons are the first three. I own the car I drive and don't plan on selling it until it is dead.

By the way thanks to all for the measurements - we got the CX-9 over the weekend and it fits perfectly! It is a dramatic improvement over our old Honda. The only negative I can find is that the third row seats 2, rather than 3 (but we knew this going into it).

Thanks again to all. Zoom Zoom

If you had an extra child I can see the need for seat #8. Since there is only 5" more width for that extra seat, though, I chose 7. If we needed 8, I'd probably get the larger Traverse. It has 8 seats and a LOT more space behind the third row.

Mazda chose adult comfort over marketing bragging rights.

And as long as the wife is happy, it doesn't matter why you do things. I know.

Personally we like to keep our vehicles a long time, so we buy. We owned our 99 CR-V for 4 years of no payments before we got 8k in trade against the CX9. That helped a lot.
