heavy rain and a cel

Well I was driving to work tonite and it was raining pretty good out the whole way to work and I know I went through a few puddles on the Highway but the car never so much as hiccuped. Well I went to get on another highway and when I accelerated off the ramp my car bucked a bit and a cel came on. Now when I press the accelerator and get above 4k rpm my car will sputter and sometimes die. The car can still be driven but there is a cel and they stalling part. Also there is some white smoke coming from the exhaust , its not terribly think but its there. Any suggestions on what to do. Also I had an injen hydroshield on the sri but it was wet so I am unsure if it sucked up water or just maybe got the filter wet.

pull the cel code and let's see what it says before we start replacing parts!

Totally agree don't make the very common mistake of simply replacing parts. To me its doubtfull that the cel is related to the rain and the intake. I have a cai and have driven during hurricanes, tropical storms, severe rain storms and pressure wash my engine often. Never had one cel or issue related to the intake.

Get it read and start from there. Check all of your connections in the meantime.

You're very lucky, then.

I often have problems with my MAF when it rains. Hell, even when it's excessively humid. But I also have a FMIC kit and a relocated MAF. Still, a wet MAF is a wet MAF.

So if you did somehow managed to get your MAF wet -- if you took in a little bit of water through your intake, or the MAF wound up with moisture in the air condensing on it -- it's entirely possible that the MAF is now causing the problems.

HOWEVER, this is a problem that usually sorts itself out. It has for me, at least, time and time again. Be patient -- give the car a day or so to 'reset' itself, and your CEL should go away and the car should start driving normally again.

Last week, I was driving in the rain and the car bucked and popped on a CEL. For two full days afterwards, I couldn't boost over 3psi. But by the third day, the car was back to normal and the CEL was gone.

Get the CEL read and let us know what the code is, and just be gentle with your car until things have a chance to dry out and resettle.

well the cell went away and the car is driving normal now. I am sure it was probably the MAF. I have the same hood as rush and when it rains I get water in through the vents because XC didn't put any rain guards on their RC hoods. Anyway I dried off the MaF and the filter and all is running perfect right now.
