Heater not working after HU install

Hey all,
I had a look for this in the forums and didn't find anything other than someoen else asking the same question about 18 months back, so here goes.

I just had my HU installed in my 2002 P5 and now I have no heat. The engine is warmed up, the heat is set to high and the fan works, but the air coming out is barely warm. I noticed that if I pop the fascia off around the stereo, the heat is there instantly, as if when the fascia is on, something is blocking somewhere. A google search brought up something about a cable like a 10 speed bike cable connecting to something around the left hand bottom edge of the glovebox. I'm going to look at it tonight after work, but want to have a few ideas before I take it off again...

Any ideas, anyone else come across this problem and can offer a suggestion?

did you make sure that you connected the two cables? one in next to your gas pedal and the other one is next to your glove box...

I didn't do the install, but I'll check it tonight when I get back. What does the cable do?

It seems like it must be connected, because when I just pop the fascia off, it's lilke the heat starts working again. It has to be at least partially connected.

who did the install? if it was a shop. drive it right up there and have them fix their mistake. if it was a friend your on your own.

Yeah, I had my selonoids come off and the AC wouldn't cut on. There are clips that hold them in place (the metal cables that move the vents open and close, adjust the air from hot to cold).

Exactly the right answer...but otherwise, check the solenoids and stuff! Good luck!

probably the cables, i had that prob when i painted my surround. prob was that when i turned it to heat from cold air the cable would catch on somthing and wouldnt let it pull it over to make the switch. the clip wasnt in place to hold it clear of obstacles.
wouldnt hurt to check.

Thanks for the suggestions guys,
I actually went out in the parking lot yesterday afternoon and had a look. Someone popsted a How-to about replacing the LEDs in the dash and had some good pics, and from them I could see the cable routing. Turns out, the clip that holds the temperature adjust cable had come off, and when I turned the knob, there was just enough stiffness in the cable to adjust the temp a little, but not through the full range. Anyway, after 30 seconds all was fixed.

I don't know what would have been better, I drove to DC from NY this weekend, WITH NO HEAT!!! Now I find out it was a 30 second job to replace it, I almost wish it was something more serious so that I don't feel like such a fool. My girl and I were freezing our asses off for nearly 4 hours each way, and now to find out that it only takes 30 seconds to fix almost makes me feel like I'd rather it was something more difficult.

Anyway, thanks to you guys and this forum I managed to fix it in 30 seconds, it probably would have taken much longer on my own.

Sorry I missed this at the begging.
The same thing happened to me a few times. The cable attached behind the glove box controls heat and it LOVES to slip off the clip once removed. I highly suggest using anything you can to make damn sure that clip doesnt come back off.
Epoxy was going to be my first route and if that didn't hold, then I was going to drill a small hole at the back of the mount for th eclip and wire tie that bastard in place :D

The dealership discovered the same thing on mine and the guy had a pair of pliers and was squeezing the f**k out of it so it wouldn't come off. It hasn't since then, but if it does, I will try 1st MP3's method.

I tried that too. I somehow managed to fatigue the plastic it clips to so nothing would grab it.
