Heat shield fell off

Well, the cylindrical-shaped exhaust heat shield (over the cat?) finally rusted and vibrated itself off today.
Couple of questions:

1) Is it even worth trying to get a new one refitted? From what I can gather, they don't really do much. I'm not in the habit of parking over long, dry grass...

2) If I do get a new one fitted, what's a muffler shop likely to charge?

Thanks.

Oh, and is is possible/safe/useful to use high temp paint on the cat assembly to try to limit rust damage to it?

Dont worry about the heat shield, I remember when mine was hanging off...not sure when it fell off haha but it did. No need for it really.

High temp paint should be fine but idk how much it will help with rust. Won't hurt to try though i suppose.

Well, there's definitely no rattling with it off, which is nice. Guess I'm just a little concerned about the floorpan getting too hot and stuff melting or something... probably just me being paranoid.

lol, I don't need the hassle of replacing the exhaust, just want to know that it's safe to drive without the heatshield.
