2003 Mazda Protege LX
Headlight Conversion:

To what? I don't know yet... something along the lines of Mitsubishi Evo 8.
This would include having to cut the fenders to allow for the squared off light.
I'm thinking this would be too much work. Basically.. I just don't like the femanine look to the 2003 protege headlights.

I could also just save some cash doing all that needless work and get some eyelids... which is what I'm leaning towards... now the only question is... do they make eyelids that will square off the protege lights? because I've looked but I am failing here... I'm going to continue to look, but any help would be wicked.

its a rounded car.. square lights would look foolish (only in my opinion of course)

If you want to do it, give it a try, but find a headlight you really want if your going to spend the cash to do it.

As far as eyelids check:
corksport
DGM
Mintblue

They're all pretty similar, and none of them will really make the sides square instead of rounded, as there is a reflector there, which in many places is a legal requirement to have on your vehicle.

If you really want to do eyelids, take some paper, make a template, pick some fiberglass and resin up, and make yourself a set, it wouldn't be too ahrd to do.

mazda 6 headlights.

i saw a photoshop and it looked crazy

yeah mazda 6 like l8r said... i was contemplating that. i still might do it later on when i revamp the whole look.

Or you could just go with a JDM front end conversion, which give you the old school sedan lights, which are pretty square on the corners. Then you could get a sweet front lip or something. Check Corksport for that.

Edit: Heres the link: http://corksport.com/store/category/4qbw/99p-exterior.html

You can't just get the front end, you'd have to replace fender as well. I'm sure corksport could help you with that, but why?

I just don't understand why you would take a car with a very distinctive (and pretty) headlight and decide to custom-fab something that will look hideous anyway.

Get yourself a set of P5 headlights, paint 'em black, and wired them up. That will look interesting and won't **** with the lines of the car.

Hm..I forgot about that. Good point. Ive just always loved the way the "old school" lights look on the P5.

Pretzellogic...

No problem, I try to take things with good humor.
Its just an idea after all, there's no sense getting all worked up about someone not agreeing with a view on design. Afterall, beauty is mostly in the eye of the beholder.

Going foward, in regards to the lines of the car. What I'm getting at is I want a more squared off light. But I think the major problem isn't just that the 02-03 lights are 'square'. its that unless its a p5, its only got the 1 bulb.

NOW, with that being said.. I have found the light I think I'm gonna go with... and I will go with lights I have found on corksport:
J-SPEC (JDM) 'Sport 20' Headlight Conversion (99,00)
J-SPEC_JDM_Sport_20_Headlight_Conversion_99_00.jpg

But I'll probably add some eyelids to it and make it look like this:
J-SPEC (JDM) 'Sport 20' Headlight Conversion (99,00) w/ KL Custom Eyelid
J-SPEC_JDM_Sport_20_Headlight_Conversion_99_00_w_eyelid.jpg

Now this setup from Corksport comes with Fenders, Fender Lights... and everything... but question is... What does this kit NOT have, that I will need to have to complete this modification ie. Is a new front Bumper required... is a new hood required... those are some unanswered questions...

Has anyone here ever done a jdm headlight conversion on a '03 protege?

Well, this isn't strictly a "JDM" conversion. You're basically going to be swapping out a '99-'00 front end with your '03 front. You'll need fenders, hood, and bumper cover.

I KNOW!!

In stead of all this... I'll just go buy a JDM Mazda Familia 1.5L 4WD Car.. :P Drop a Mitsubishi Evo 8 AWD engine in there.. swap the driveshaft.. and make myself a 400HP Right Seat drive Mazda Evoprofam.

LOL!

you need a new hood and front bumper. there is a taiwan protege picture thread floating around. you can see some of their sick cars and maybe you can get your hands on their headlights and front bumpers. Focus is doing this so you might want to contact him also
