Headers

I was wondering if anyone has put headers on their P5? I have an after market muffler with CAI and was wondering if it was worth my time/money.

i've heard of some minor top end gains, nothing dramatic from the headers. OBX and AWR make good ones - OBX are smog legal, AWR are not.

It's header. (no "s"), and if you do a search you will find plenty of info on them.. :D

I was in my local go fast shpo today and was talking to one of the resident civic drivers... well he works there and has a sweet car so i respect him, And he said that OBX had headers for sale, but dont plan on getting them ANYTIME soon, he says they dont have any made, and he has put in orders for 2, and well, still doesent have them. Look Elsewhere. He said noone else makes them for the Pro5, but i think thats just complete bulls*** and him being too lazy to look. Oh well

hp racing produces some, they wre just puyt onto nopi's website, i just ordered some. Also Apc (sigh) makes a header for our car which you can also get at nopi.....both are rather cheap....i am hoping to get my header by the middle to end of the week so i will keep you guys updated on gains and what not

The only header that is available and will actually ship to you when you order it is the AWR header (~$495), the Mazdaspeed header which is like $800+, or the Bosal header made for the MX-6 that will fit with slight modifications to EGR. OBX, and HP racing claim to have them, but they won't ship! NOPI has had those things on their site for months and nobody has gotten one. They should take them off of their site.

which in fact I just got finished putting my header on. its a little difficult to get to two of the bolts. but i got her on. My butt dyno tells me it picked up some power in the mid range and up and didnt really lose any down low, could still light them up pretty good and chirp going into second. ill try and get some pics of it installed and get some friends to drive my car and see what they say about it.

Hey Freekwonder! I was wondering what happened to you. Yeah, a couple of the bolts (center) are harder to get to but if you have swivels it can be done no prob. I'm glad to hear that you got it on the car. You need to modify the cat outlet next and also you need to let your ECU learn new settings over the next 2-300 miles. It makes a difference believe me.

sweet. thanks traveler. maybe i should unplug my batter for a little bit also. i can get to the bolts just hard when im putting it on and watching my kid. but i was able to put it in in a couple hours by myself though. it looks good under the hood i need to get some pics. def worth the money

Traveler, I know you make headers for the pro, but what I'm wondering is what you mean by the before last sentence above.

Modify cat outlet? Do you mean get some kind of cat back system or something else?

Also, how do you let the ECU "learn" the new settings? Doesn't that happen on its own?

Thanks and sorry if the questions seem a little dumb....

First off, I modified my cat outlet. It's only 1.75" or so. I opened mine up to 2.05", made a custom downpipe out of 2.25" O.D. tubing, and made a new 2.25" pipe to connect to the second cat. I kept the ball and socket style pivot point under the motor for flex control. It works great. .3 inch in diameter may not sound like much, but it works out to about a 40% increase in area. That's a lot of flow.

Yes, the ECU learns new settings over time. It takes 2-300 miles for them to be fully learned usually. Take a couple road trips and you should be fine. Has to be done over the course of at least 2 drive cycles also. That means fully cold to warmed up and driving for 20 minutes, cool down, complete warm up cycle and drive for 20 minutes.

the only problem i see with the header is gas milealge.

I CANT stay off the throttle. i love this.
