Headers and manifolds and the such..

Question for all you guys and gals out there that are experts on the engines. My friend said that a header replaced the exhaust manifold on an engine. Now to my understanding, the exhaust manifold is replaced with a turbo manifold when a turbo is put on the car. Now does this mean you can only have either one or the other, or does it mean that my friend and myself really don't have a clue about engines? :-)

You are right. Header, exhaust manifold, turbo manifold, they are all the same piece, the part that bolts to the block where the exhaust gas exits the engine. There is a difference between a manifold and a header.

This is a header:

Each cylinder gets its own pipe. The pipe is rounded as opposed to a manifold. Better flow.

This is a manifold:

You can see the difference.

A turbo manifold is an exhaust manifold with a flange on the end for a turbo. Depending on the turbo, it may also have a place for the wastegate to bolt to.

So no you can't have but one of the 3 :)
