Hey guys i was putting on a header yesterday and i was having trouble getting it to fit. The header itself bolts on good but at the top of the header there is a tube and it connects to a copper wire, someone told me it was the EGR(im not sure though), it wont fit..its too short, it wont reach at all..has anybody else had this problem?? (boom06)

Remove the bolts off the header, just use the studs to hold in place, attach the EGR tube and tighten, then bolt the header back to the block. If you have a OBX this is the best way to install

ghostbusters:so just cut it off??? someone told me to jus get it extended and welded

ogsp5:we tried to put that on first and then bold the header on...the egr tube is soo short that the header got stuck and we cldnt get it, that copper is hard lol

right now i just left it there, its making this really annoying rattling noise when i step on the gas.

it wont fit because ur using either a 626 or mx6 header, different egr tube altogether...cover the bit on the header and cut the pipe, you can put a filter at the end of the pipe to make sure dirty air doesnt get back in your intake.
I'm doing this next week when i get back my engine head.

how short is it? it's easier to loosen the bracket on the driver side of the head under the coolant block to give you some play and be able to bend it. the header for the 626 is the same. the difference in the 626 EGR pipe is near the intake manifold since the EGR mounts at a different angle than the protege manifold. but the rest of the pipe is the same.

cougar10agredux : the pipe is pretty short, i think my car might have been made weird because the place for the egr valve on the stock header looks as if its been welded several times and extended.

ghostbusters : you dont happen to know the size of the bolt to cover the header do you???

and one more thing...its making this REALLY annoying rattling sound anytime my foot touches the gas pedal..what's that???!!

The EGR size and thread is a standard oil drain tube size. Not for the Protege, I bought mine from a machine shop and it was a standard size I just dont know what it iz...........

my problem was slightly the same... except the header also has the wrong connection as well... the US egr pipe has a male connection going to the exhaust manifold, the JDM pipe has a female connection. i just swapped in a JDM motor. i got a header as a cheaper replacement for the pre-cat as it was burned up. well the header has a male connection on it so the US egr pipe wont screw on and the JDM one is shaped totally wrong. Bending it didnt work as it just crimped and flattened without a tubing bender. anyone have to get a custom egr pipe? or customize the one they had? im looking for options here as i bought a fitting to fit the header, cut the pipe and connected it with a thick hose as a temp fix, but it only lasted a couple days before burning a hole in the hose.. anyone know where i could maybe find some sort of flexible metal line i could use. if all else fails ill get a custom pipe made at a tubing shop in town but im trying to avoid that expense
