just wondering if anyone out there has has any head unit problems such as cut out. i've installed 2 different alpine head units 7893 and now 7894. i have problems with the head unit loosing power from the car and i've even had the car die on me a couple of times. the dealership replaced my computer but i'm still having power loss. its not the install its the car. as far as i've found out, i know of 3 other p5 owners that have had the same problem from alpine units only, they both have had no recurring problems after changing to other brands. i, unfortunately, can not change because i'm running xm radio. any feed back to help me solve this problem is appreciated.

One word, VDRIVE. all alpine head units equipt with vdrive internal amplifiers must have their constant power wired to the battery or to the main constant fead to the collumn. These are basicly the most powerful head units available and can do weird things to cars when installed improperly. Both models you listed are VDRIVES. At tweeter I do atleast 2 reinstalls a week becuase someone didn't read the alpines directions or warning on its power wire and wired it to the stock constant power wire at the radio. Get some 14 guage or 12 guage wire and run an inline 20 amp fuse and attach it right to the battery and if it was the unit you'll be fine.

I seriously doubt it could fry a computer though unless you cut off that converters that come on the power wire of the alpine, the big grey plastic cubes.

VDRIVE actualy converts 12 vdc to higher AC voltage to increase the decks power, If you cut off the devices inline with the power wire as it came from alpine then I could see something like this happening.

head unit problems

That's a good point, i didn't think of that. i'm pretty sure that car dying on me was do to the A/c because now its cool i don't use it and i haven't had another epsiode yet. thanx for the adv.:o
