Head Lights are Burnin up

I recently put new hyper white bulbs in my car.Tonight i noticed my driver side head light was out. So when i got a chance to pop the hood and check out the problem. I noticed the head light connector and the back of the bulb were melted. I went to pull the bulb out of the connector and one of the pronges from the back of the bulb got stuck in the melted connector.Also the bulb has a small bubble in it........Would this be a problem with the bulb connector or is the bulb I bought defective....Also would the bulb wattage have an effect...I think it might be 100 watts.

yea... the wire/connector cant handle the watts... your lucky the bulb popped before the wiring melted. Stay within stock watt specs

What are the stock specs? When i got my car it didn't have the owners manual so i dont know what they are...i know my bulbs are 55watts and they melted the black plug on the blub connector. I got some new streetglow bulbs that are 75watts, should i take it out before it damages the other side too?

The owners manual says 55 watts for the low beam and i belive it 5 for the high beams ...i had 100 watt low beam bulbs and melted the hell out of the black plug...one of the prongs actually became completely detached and got stuck in the white connector, i was luckily able to pull it out with some pliars ....i stuck it back in the black plug and electrical taped it... seems fine now.... as some one speaking from experience definately stay within the stock specs..

You can also upgrade your wiring harness so you don't melt the stock equipment. The stock wiring will only be used to trigger the relays, so very low amperage. The lights will be powered from heavier gauge wiring directly from the battery.

It's sad that the places you buy these over-wattage bulbs from don't warn you. I understand they want to make a buck. Usually, you don't just grab these off the rack. At least, I don't see them easily accessable. Everywhere I go, I'd have to ask for the higher powered bulb which they typically don't carry. Otherwise, they're the standard 55W.

holy crap..that'sa lotta wattage. stick to 55 watt bulbs. osram silverstars are the most common replacements

The reason I ask is because my friend has a wrx and he got some 80 watts bulbs. So I was wondering if his harness would melt.

Every car I've worked on with stock halogen low beam bulbs were under 60watts. 80W is fairly common for a high beam, so he probably won't be in that bad of a situation, since the harness is designed to go that high. 100w, however, is a bit excessive. If they are a dual filament bulb, then it'd be like 80/100. Most people don't drive with the highs on for prolonged periods, so it won't be that bad.
