Hawaii ???

Alright I'm thinking of moving out of my home town which is San Jose , Cali .But I don't know where to go .... since I'm use to great weather Hawaii is the first place that came to mind . Which Islands do you recomend ? what does it cost to have a car or truck shipped there ? or should I just stay in California? -Outlaw Dan-

I'm stationed out here on Oahu and the one thing I will say Hawaii is a very different place to live than it is to visit. I love it out here. I'm in a great club and we do something almost every weekend.

If you're in to modding your car there's good news and bad news about Hawaii. Good news there are already two great Mazda clubs out here. Pro 5 which is well established and very tight and M-SPEC which is still forming up but coming together nicely. Bad news is Hawaii's rules regarding what you can and can't do to your cars. Don't get me wrong, we mod, but there is a lot of regs about it. Of course you're coming from Cali so it would probably be a fresh breath of air to come out here.

I can't speak for the other Isalnds, but Oahu is nice. A lot to do and pretty good weather so far. But, I hope you have a job before you move out here. There isn't a lot of jobs available out here and the cost of living is high.

Thanx for the insight .as for my Protege it's pretty much done check out my sig .......on monster.com there were quite a few jobs in my line of work ( Diesel Mechanic) Oahu is one of my top pic's aswell . As for cost of living I pay $1600 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment here in San Jose how does that reflect in Hawaii ?

Yeah, I caught your sig after I wrote that. lol. Doesn't sound like anything that'll get you in too much trouble. As for the cost of living, it sounds like Cali is pretty well online with the prices out here. Things like the cost of Milk and Gas are what really drive people nuts, but I haven't really felt that so badly shopping on base. Shipping on parts is what drives me insane.

As for shipping a car I had estimates of anywhere from $650 to $1500 and that was on a Del Sol. All depends where you go. Shipping straight from Cali shouldn't be too bad though.

Hopefully some of the other guys on here from Hawaii will see this thread because they can give you a lot better idea of what to expect out in town and such.

you can rent a house here for $1600... this place is the s***!!! and you'll have an easier time keeping your mileage down

oahu is more of the city action compared to the other islands! youll like it if your a laid back person! if you need alot of action then you better off in L.A.! but we do have action here! haha! but yeah my cousin lives out in san jose and she pays about the same amount as you do! but you get what you pay for from what i hear? i pay for a two bed. apartment for about $800 a month plus $50 for i stall (parking)!!!!! so you do the math! haha! but considering the carrer you heading into you should live comfortably! GOOD LUCK on the decision!

what does it cost to buy a place on Oahu or on any of the other Islands ?? Will I be rejected because I'm not a local ?? will my car rust away to nothing ?? or should I bring my truck ??I'm looking forward to a more laid back lifestyle, but I do like to have a good time . ....thanx you guys have been really helpful . -Dan-
