have you guys heard about the poorman's boost controller ?

i met this guy, tony, @ my skewl (his bro goes there). ne way, he has a civic w/ transplanted gs-r motor and turbo'd. i told him that i just got my MSP and i was telling him about what mod i wanted to get first, which was to get some kind of boost controller. he said to save my money and just get 4 t-connector fish tank valves. take the wastegate tube, cut it in half, then connect the valves together all closed and of course make sure they're sealed. then if i wanted to add some more boost, just open up one of the valves = 1 to 1.5 psi. then voila ! instant boost controller. i ono u guys...it seems kinda cool, but then again, i don't think that would be a very reliable solution...

just want ur guys advice...gawd i love this forum.

if want to make your own go a little better and get a pressure regulator for air compressors from Lowes hardware and some vaccum hose. more reliable and safer for making your own. I just made mine and spent 23 dollars. anyway good luck to you whichever way you go.

My advice.....save your lunch money for three days, buy JoeP's manual boost controller for only $30 or so that's been tried and tested, and save yourself the time and possibly money after you blow up your engine.

I have made some MBCs for some DSMs for 5 bucks at home depot and they work fine .....sometimes they do spike a psi or two high......but if you have it set at lets say 9psi on your
MSP ...a spike to 11 psi for one sec is not going to hurt anything

If he can afford an MSP, he can afford $35 for a MBC. Even if richy rich mommy and daddy bought it for him, I'm sure he can save up his weekly allowance or lunch money and buy it.

Yeah, sure- that's all it is ... That's all a bleeder style MBC is- which, if you'd notice, is the style NONE of the better manufacturers offer- HKS, Greddy, me, Hallman, Turbo XS, etc- because they suck- bottom line.. A ball and spring is a better design and if you have been into turbos for any amount of time, you would know that they are prefferred for their spool up and cosistent operation.. The second best style/idea is using an inline regulator like mentioned above. Using a bleeder is just plain retarded when boost control and turbo technology have come so far. Maybe back in 84 it was a good idea, but so were Chevettes at one time also ..

Whoa- thong riding up?? What the hell was that all about??? Did you think for a second that I MAKE the ball and spring because it is what I prefer and not the other way around??? I made ONE for MY OWN car because it is what worked best out of all I have tested and people started to ask from there, that is how the whole thing even started. I never once planned on selling them at first, so no it is not what I "prefer because I make it"

I gotcha on just giving him an idea, but saying "all a boost controller is is a controlled leak" is generalizing it and I was just clarifying.. Damn, now I remember why I never come here anymore .

I used the fish tank valve on my old 88 GTX and it actually worked great. I was a bit of a pain to set the boost though.
Even thought I had no problems with the fish tank valve , it just seems wrong to use something that cheap on a MSP.

I agree, and $30 for a Joe P manual boost controller sure seems like a damn bargain to me! Go out to dinner one less time and you've more than paid for your new boost controller.
