have you guys heard about the poorman's boost controller ?

Not being able to afford the JoeP MBC makes me wonder if this guy even goes cheap on his gas...I mean, you know how expensive that 91+ octane can be.
"I'm sure it'll hold up fine with 87, right??"
Damn newbs!!(stooges)

btw, i'm on my 3rd or 4th tank of gas... or so i think. odo read 1000+ miles today...i've had my car for 2 weeks...

It's like most other things...you get what you pay for...I wouldn't go cheap on a boost controller. Besides, a good one like JoeP's isn't that much anyway..

91? Is that the best they have there? I ALWAYS ran Sunoco Ultra 94 in mine after I turned the boost up. It is all part of playing :).. If you are limited to 91, I wouldn't go much more than 9, *MAYBE* 10 psi in your car. Later.
Joe

yeah...91 is like the only premium stuff that we have here...i've never even seen a 94 or anything higher grade pump

guy I work with says somewhere off of almaden expy. there's a 76 that carries 100, but I have yet to go look for it. Sorry to interrupt. Totally sucks out here

yeah, i feel ya. even if i could find a place that carries 100 octane...i'd barely be able to afford it ! blah, i seriously need a job...ne one hiring !?

It's usually about $4.50 a gallon. Some 76 stations have it. You can check on their website. When I got off at Cheseboro Rd off the 101 they had 100 octane.

holy crap !!! $4.50 !? that's like 40-50 bucks a tank ! i think i'll save that stuff for when i go autox or something...if i can get a good job, i'll go for the 100 octane

Yes, it's quite pricey. I don't even think you'd need it for autocrossing. Just people who like to turn up the boost a lot on track days :)

All I can say is the old cliche- "you wanna play, you gotta pay"!!! Seeing as how detonation is the #1 killer of turbo motors, the higher the octane, the better... If not, leave it alone and don't take chances.... Even if you turn the boost down and turn the FCD off (easy to hook up a toggle switch) for pump gas and only turn it up/on with better gas... My Z28 is filled with VP C16 constantly and I pay $8 per gallon at the track!!!! It is probably over kill, but since I never know when I might want to hit the "button" playing around with someone, I am not going to risk a $9000+ motor because I didn't have the proper fuel to protect it...

Not saying you need to run around with race fuel all the time, but since you can only get 91, it might not hurt to at least mix it if you want to up the boost...
Joe

hmmm...okae ! so if i get ur MBC Joe...i should only run up to 8-9 psi max to stay away from detonation and at least a mix of 91/94 octane ?. mmmmmmkae, thanks ! hopefully, i'll get it soon...

Not saying youabsolutely, 100% have to- but better safe than sorry... There are a bunch of guys doing it, I just think it is on the edge with anything over 9.5-10 psi with 91 octane..
Joe

Thanks Savy for providing the info to get the good gas. That is a big help. This way I can run the 9 psi and be possibly safe.

Hey if no one else pats me on the back I have to...:D
Arm hurts from bending funny.

sorry ! i was gonna reply when i saw it but my dad was yelling @ me to get off...but thanks !!!

alright its not that I am cheap it's that this is the first car I have owned that has been worth a damn to mod and I want to do alot of the things myself not just buy and install. I hope you can understand where I am coming from. Hey live and learn.
