I would like to paint my emblems black, does anyone know a good way to do this, which paint to use, how to get the emblems on and off?
thanks

emblems come off with either a hair dryer or heat gun. for the back, i used fishing line to slowly ease the emblems off. be sure the glue is nice and melted.

for painting, i sanded them down and then sprayed some SEM (i think that's the name) black trim paint. it's a nice flat matte black similar to what is on the window frames around the door. a few even coats, let dry, then glue it back on.

good luck.

thanks tonkabui,
did you have to re glue the emblem, or did you just heat the old glue to put them back on?

i took off all the old adhesive with 3m adhesive remover. then i reapplied 3m trim and emblem adhesive. those things ain't moving unless i heat it up again.

Is it glue on a Mazda? On a VW, they use double sided tape- you can get it at auto body shops- they'll usually just give you a few foot long strip. Strong stuff, so long as the surface you apply it to is clean. On Fords is a black gunky stuff, as I recall. You can scrape it off with your fingernail.

it's adhesive glue. you can scrape it off if you want, but it is a LOT easier with some adhesive remover.

So the emblems don't have holes behind them on the trunklid? I had thought about taking off the Protegay emblem off, but was unsure about whether it was just adhesive or holes/pins. On my Lexus I used to have, I removed all the emblems and had to weld up all the holes before repainting.

well, for the p5, i know each side, plus the mazda symbol in the middle on the back all has two holes in the hatch itself.

Yeah, I spent about 15 minutes trying to de-badge the car and finally realized that it wasnt coming off. The only option you have is to take it off and fill the holes and then paint it. Its not that hard but I personally wouldnt do it because Im just to lazy. The car would look good de-badged and then no one would know what the hell kind of car your driving.

Thanks for clearing that up before I really screwed something up. I don't plan on repainting anything on my MSP.

tonkabui - Do you have any pics of the painted emblems on the car?

Thanks.

If you search I've got pics of my emblems painted a metallic graphite.

I had a cop check out my car in the parking lot of my apartment because he thought I looked suspicious & there had been several cars stolen in the next complex over. He went to look at the rear of my car to get the plate # & when he came back, he asked me if it was an Impreza.
