has anyone added aftermarket rear-view camera themselves?

The one option I was strongly considering was a rear-view camera because the visibility when backing up is not so good... but I didn't want to pay for all the OTHER stuff in the grand touring package. Has anyone added a rear-view camera? source? installation tips?

I found a bunch on crutchfield that look ok, but always like to check around for tips before I do it myself!

I installed the OEM camera with the display in the rearview mirror (part numbers are 0000-8F-N01 and 0000-8F-N04). There are several threads about installing it on the forum. It isn't really all that hard, just time consuming.

I just finished installing Rostra's model 250-8070. I researched this quite a bit before deciding on which model. The Rostra price was better than the OEM model.

Was pretty easy, but very time consuming, especially the portion of the work wiring it through the rear gate. It took me about 4 hours. My wife says it was a lot longer, but who knows I drank a couple beers in the process :-)

The instructions from Rostra were definitely not sufficient. I relied heavily on the Mazda installation guide, which was published somewhere else on this board in 2 parts.

The result is excellent, overall I'm very pleased with the Rostra product.

This happens to me as well every time I work on the car. The story goes that it took me twice as long as I thought it would take, at least from her point of view.

Similar situation. I'm picking up a 2011 Touring tomorrow that does't have the camera. I saw some aftermarket review mirror backup camera kits on amazon and think they might work up just fine.

Id have to tell ya that the 2011's camera is night and day better than the 2008's version. My favorite is still the 2011 Acura MDX's that we test drove. Gave you 3 different camera modes/angles.

I wonder if that camera can be fitted to work on the CX-9? If it does not have a proprietary harness, it might be able to be made to work.
