harness bar

does anyone know of a harness bar made specifically for the MSP's. i've done the search but don't come up with anything. i don't want a cage or a bar and rollover bar combo. just a harness bar to mount behind the seats and preferrably using stock seat mounting points perhaps.

or something where i could get the roll over/harness bar combo but not render my back seat useless. i've also thought about just getting harnesses and using the baby seat mounts on the rear deck.....any thoughts on this?

not using it to go racing or anything and don't want to change my seats......more for a visual mod more than anything.

looking for something along these lines.........

I had to make my own. Rumor has been that the WRX bar will work but to my knowledge nobody has tried it. Autopower makes a bolt in 4 point harness but it impairs the ability to use your back seat!!

The sparco wrx harness bar will work. I know this for a fact because I've had one in my car for over a year. I've had many a member PM me about this after seeing it in pics of my interior. You will need extended bolts for the b pillar, and spacers to accompany them. You also might want longer bolts for the base of the support tubes. You can use the stock seat belt bolt position there, but the stock bolt is not long enough if you also plan on anchoring a harness belt there also. The install is fairly plain and simple. Follow this pdf of the install instructions for the wrx as a rough guideline:

If you can't obviously tell from the instructions, you need not do step 3 as you will be making use of our stock seat belt mounting location rather than cutting the carpet or w/e you have to do for the wrx.

I hope this information helps. I too was looking for a harness bar solution when I came across the "rumor", and decided to take a shot. It works:

Wagnermotorsports had a bar in production at one time, though they collapsed as a company. Maybe search around, or get the old contact information for Wagner. Maybe there's still one out there, I did get the privileage of seeing the prototype in person.

The pic in post #4 is of the wagner bar I believe. I was ready to jump on board with that until they went under. I hated the location of the support tubes anyways, and it appeared kinda cheap-ish imo.

Try reading every post in the thread? Like I just mentioned above, and the guy above me, that is the wagner motorsports harness bar. There was only one (1) made to our knowledge, and it is currently on a white p5. It was the prototype and the only way to get your hands on that exact one is to buy it off of its current owner... unless I am mistaken and there was more than one made. However, I doubt there was since wagner could barely keep his head above water let alone get into the shop to start fabbing these bars out for a group buy that was showing very large interest.

i actually got that picture from www.rallyinnovations.com

<-- owned lol. That bar is soooo similar to the wagner bar, and the pictures I remember of it. The car it's installed on has black sparco seats just like those, the bar was black, the support tubes mounted in the same place, and the radio looks very similar to that of a protege's. If I had looked closer though it's defiantly a wrx. Anyways, getting in and out of the rear seat isn't any different from stock.... well nearly no different. Might be easier since you have something to grab onto lol. However, something I didn't consider until after I installed the bar was this. Yes, there is still lots of room in the rear seat for passengers, but what would happen to them if you were in an accident? Would it be very safe to be seated behind that bar in a head on collision? I'm always very weary as to putting anyone in that rear seat now.

I think I saw one yesterday on the crossover auto site, but it may have been a cage.

It was removable though.

they best be wearing that seat belt yo. hahahahaha it would suck to smach ur head open on one of those. cause then they would bleed in ur car. they shouldn't do that. not in a protege. ahahhahahaa

yes, i've thought about that scenario as well....but i'm thinking if i don't ever take someone to sit in the middle and both other passengers wear their belts then should be ok...........also maybe putting the thick foam around it may help...but i'd hate to have anyone smack into it.......biggest debate and why i haven't bought it as of yet.......unless i can hook it up with some sort of quick release bolts/pins.......

that will be crazy cool. i thought about the foam too. but I just don't know about that

I heard rumors also that PT-Performance is trying to make a harness bar for Protege's with a camera mount in the middle too... If that works out, I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon...
