howdy,

new to the forum and i was wondering if anyone had installed the harman kardon drive and play ipod interface?

i've been looking for a good way to wire up my ipod for a bit now and this one seems like the coolest interface out there. just not sure how to get it to fit best in my '06 mazda 3. if anyone has any experiences with this thing i'd love to hear about it.

second question would be on installation. i've been looking for info on the stock stereo to see if it has any kind of aux in but haven't found any definitive answers anywhere. so i'm kind of assuming there isn't. i had a slight hope i could wire into either where the satelite radio would hook up or where the "media" button hooks up (which i believe was for the tape player). any good tips for that? i'd love to avoid using the FM connection if possible.

here are some pics of the interface i ripped from crutchfield:

The OEM radios/cd/mp3 HUs do not appear to have an actual aux input for one to plug in an external audio source. I thought I saw a thread about installing a modded input
for them, but seemed a bit over my head, tech wise.

yeah i had seen some stuff about that... when i followed links and ended up at a pic of a circuit board i decided i was out of my league as well...

i really wanna get this interface but i don't want to remove the stock radio and i don't want to go through FM wired or wireless. guess i could be kinda stuck.

edit:
forgot to mention in the original post that i have the 6cd in dash with 6 speakers non-bose.

Same one I have. At least you can play mp3s in it, tho not via your external player.
One wonders how hard it would have been for them to include a simple aux jack...

ah well.

Try Auxmod!

i have this little gizmo installed in my 04 Mazda3

The AuxMod turns your TAPE input button into a AUX input. Just plug any device with stereo mini jack and push the TAPE button on the radio and you have got a direct line in tap into the HU.

Works great for me :-)

Hmm..looks like they aren't actually *for sale* yet. That sites had that same status for some time now IIRC. But yep, looks like it would work!

yeah you need to get put onto a list, its a couple of electrical engineering students that make them, so when they have time they bust out a certian amt and then send them to the people on the list... have not heard one bad thing about them, only pos!!!

yeah i e-mailed syflex haven't heard back yet, i reaaaaally want to get one. ebay has some drive and play's for cheap NIB.

drive and play arrived today. tested it out with wireless before i wire it in just to make sure it worked. interface rocks imo. i need to get an auxmod stat to make this thing worthwhile. fm transmitter has the requisite static... the higher fm station the better sound though.

once i've got this all set i can take pics if people are interested.
