Haggling the best deal for a Mazda6

I just went to look at a Mazda6 last night at the dealer. It's a sweet peppy car with a nice interior. It also handles very well on corners and is fun to drive. I am really considering buying it. The question is how do you guys recommend I get the best deal on it and also take advantage of the 0% 5 year financing that Madza provides. What % over invoice should I expect to pay, especially if I am interested in a car that they do not have on the lot.

I am looking to get a steel silver 6 with the premium package, 5 speed, leather, bose and 17 inch rims.

Right now they are trying to offer me MSRP, which I realize I can try and haggle down, but what is a fair goal and what should I look out for.

You should go to edmunds.com to find out what others are paying -- it's called TMV (true market value).

You didn't say whether it was a 6i or a 6s (4-cyl. or V-6). Here's the pricing link for both...

6i (4-cyl.)

6s (V-6)

They also have information about how the system of car pricing works and how to negotiate a good deal. Click on the "Tips and Advice" tab at the top of the page to learn more about this.

I would want to get the 6cyl.. I am a little pissed about the 0% not being available with some packages. But if I get like 3.9% that wont be too bad, as long as the payments are under 400/mo

I wish i got that...I got a 2004 6s 5sp with Sport/Sunroof/Bose/heated Leather and eaven with the A-Plan (s-plan) pricing i pay just under 500 a month. I did have to roll in 2,000 from my previous car though (made it back up by selling off boltons and mods).

Anyhow i like the car a lot and it's worth every penny!

wow, you guys are going about this the WRONG way....never start a negotiation from MSRP. Tell him you will offer him invoice MINUS any rabtes and incentives. Haggle the price of the car without regard for rebates or financing. Once you get them to sell you the car the car AT OR UNDER INOVICE (never above) THEN go into F&I and decide wether it's more important to have the larger rebate or better intrest rate.

Sheesh! you people act like you've never bought a car before!!

p.s. once you get their best deal ask them to put it on paper and sign it. You will think about it for a few days before spending such a large sum of money. IF they do this (and they should if they're honroable) immediatly go and shop prices on them.

No haggeling with the A-plan, and the dude gave me the "best" trade in....
Or least assraping on the tradein...Went only to 3 dealerships though, mazda dealerships are pretty far apart here....You are right though, eaven though you go thru all sorts of crap and think you are getting a bargain, they end up with the last laugh!

I just bought a 6s two days ago. I spent exactly 8 hrs looking (by phone and computer) for the right deal. I visited one dealership already having negotiated the price over the phone. After everything was said and done (incentives included), I got my Steel Gray, Auto, Sport, Bose, Moonroof, Side Airbag havin' vehicle for $22.7k. $100 under invoice.

My advice is to go to Edmunds.com and ask for a price quote. They'll get you a half dozen quotes from local dealers. At least one of them will give you a pretty aggressive quote. Use it against the others. UNDERSTAND that all of these cars have 2% dealer holdback cooked into the invoice. That's the only money you should allow them to make. No mark up!

Try to deal with the Internet Managers of the dealerships. Many times (as was the case with me) they aren't paid on commission and are just there to move units. They'll give you the no bs price to get you out the door. I didn't even ask for the price I got.....it was OFFERED to me. If any of you are in the philly area, let me know and I'll hook you up with the lady that sold me mine.
