H&R coilover install/review.

The rears look like a pain to adjust the height...the couple of sets of coilovers I had on my VW..the threaded sleeve was on the bottom and could be easily accessed with the wrenches.

^ hehe... this was going to be my next comment! i haven't adjusted them since the install, just put them in nearly maxed and it turned out to be perfect. but i don't really see a way to adjust them with out removing the lower arm outer bolt and letting the upper perch come away from the crossmember a bit.

o men i just order my like 2 weeks ago, i was worry that i had made the wrong chois. thanks guy u help me clam down a lil.

Depends how low you have them. At 50% or less they look to be accessible without having to remove the arm.

hehe... for my purposes of getting a good drop, a DD, and regular spirited drives in the twisties they have been great! what are you hoping to get out of them?

DD men i dont do auto x or drag i just like a nice drop + i needed some coiloers for my new wheels

well, double checked the brake line brackets up front today. strut seems seated correctly, everything is in place. even took a mallet to the bracket to bend it back a bit, but still can't get the brake line to reach. slapped a couple of zip-ties on there just to make sure the brake line doesn't move... but don't think it's really gonna be a problem.

Picked up my set yesterday. $500.00 used (8K/1 yr) and included the OEM top mounts, rear upper mounts, and rear jounce bumpers (cut). The outside of the box says Mazda 3 04+ but the part #'s match what's pictured on page 3.

The spring rates are 392 F (P) and 224 R (P). Those seem appropriate for the MS3 variant but I won't know for sure until I get them installed. Regardless, the price was too good to pass up.

I will be taking a few measurements and will post those up in about a week or so. They will be installed in April.

definitely a good price! sounds like they don't have a lot of use... what condition are they in?

Condition is excellent. Missing one of the adjustment wrenches, and a bit dirty, but otherwise everthing looks fantastic. I was very lucky. :)

Just finished doing the fronts today, no time for rear.

Brake like was tight, but was able to get it in place.

Question yellow, how did you remove the bump stops from the upper perches? I ended up cutting mine to make it fit

nice, glad you got the brake line to fit. i didn't use the stock bump stops up front, they don't fit the H&R strut. they just sort of pop off if you carefully pry them off the perch.

I see. Well, went for a drive this morning, soft brake pedal! Had to pump it few times to get firmness back. Maybe the brake line strech to make it fit caused a tiny leak?

ouch. yeah, i left my brake line sitting in the bracket as is and threw a zip tie on it. didn't want to stretch or pull it at all...

more likely that there is some air in the lines still.

After another day of driving, pedal feel remains same, so looks like it's going to be ok, although confidence in the brakes have dropped a bit, not knowing if it's going to maintain long term. Might do the zip-tie thing for peace of mind, or swap out with SS lines.

It's wierd driving with just the fronts, but initial impression is that it's softer than expected, feels stock in most cases, great as DD.

hmmm... if you don't see any leaks in the brake line then you might just need to bleed the brakes.

yeah, the coilovers aren't super stiff. definitely stiffer than stock but not uncomfortable. the main thing for me is that they are more responsive and don't have that bouncy feeling that the stock setup has.

Finally had time to do the rears today, also wanted to look at the brake line situation in the front.

Rears were relatively easy, no fitment issues, just time consuming.

Now back to the fronts. I ended up taking a pair of pliers and 'pull' out the brake line holder flange aboout 1/2" outward. It was fairly pliable so it was easy to shape it. Couple of cell pics to give an idea. Now the brake lines are relaxed. Feel much better now.

oh, snap! you got the lines to fit. i tried bending mine as well but still couldn't get them to line up.... maybe i'll try once more.

It should be doable with struts in place although I took mine out to remove the bump stops.

Anyway, fiddled with the height and I think I finally got it to my liking, 7/8" in front and 3/4" in back, didn't want too much neg camber. Published spec on height range is inaccurate, range is more like .5"-2" in front and .25"-1.5" in back.

As for handling/ride, initially I was disappointed because it was softer than expected, but after about 200mi, it has firmed up nicely, perfect for DD. Definitely much reduced floatiness, less squat/dive/roll. Should have come like this stock.
