Gun storage

One big reason I don't like the idea of carrying in a glove box is because I stow my proof of liability insurance in there as well and licensed or not, it may result in a sticky situation with some officers. Just not interested in opening myself up to vulnerability. Of course, I could just stow my insurance elsewhere, but the glove box is too far from my reach to store a firearm anyway. Many states, Texas included, extend your rights to your automobile, as it is considered a piece of your property, making it lawful to carry in your car. Of course, Penal code varies state to state, and Texas has imposed limitations on unlicensed handguns in autos - they must be concealed, and obviously you can't be conducting criminal mischief, part of a gang, etc.

I've actually never opened carried and don't really intend to. Texas has been an open state for only 6 months now. It's been a hot topic here. For the most part, since it's been illegal, open carry spooks alot of people down here, believe it or not. Guess we're not really wild west anymore.

I always carry almost everywhere I go (GA is a very gun friendly state) but I never keep a firearm locked in my vehicle, always carry it on me. My S&W Shield 40 is my go to carry gun, and I found an IWB holster that is the most comfortable I have seen yet - https://www.n82tactical.com/store/holsters/mp-shield-40-sw#prettyPhoto. So comfortable I was able to keep it tucked in my waistband while driving on a 1,200 mile round trip to south FL, barely knew it was there. Another good feature about this holster is that my Kimber Ultra Carry II, Sig P938 9mm, and Ruger LCR 357 revolver all fit in it very comfortably......... This is the original tuckable version I am referring to.

welcome back

If pulled over by Police, should you advise them you have firearms or withhold to answer? What are our rights as citizens?

I advise them of it if it is pertinent, when it's in the vehicle (example: If they ask to see my insurance, I inform them that I have a firearm where I store that, and ask them how they would like for me to proceed.) However, if the officer walks up to my window, I do not automatically just tell them I have a firearm somewhere in my car. If I am CARRYING my weapon on my person, I always advise them of it, period.

Just tell them and it's not a big deal "Officer, for your safety and mine, I want to let you know that I have a loaded pistol stored with my insurance. Would you like for me to get my insurance, or would you prefer to. It is in the *insert location*?"

The officer can then decide what makes them the most comfortable and advise you.

I'm not a fan of OC, either. It just bumps you up on the criminal's priority list. Don't think so? Look how many people try to gun-grab from police officer. Now compare that to ANY story you have found about someone trying to grab a pistol from a CCW'er that they didn't know was there, lol

Only California's thinks it has a key role in gun debate. I thank God that if a shooter brakes into the school my children went to he or she will be met by armed citizens protecting the children. Personally I do my best to avoid gun free zones. I will not go to a gun free restaurant. They aren't safe.

California has a massive role in the gun debate. Roughly 20-25% of the firearm industry's revenue comes from that state. It is a MASSIVE market, whether people outside of CA want to admit it or not.

You guys in the other states are lucky. It is nearly impossible for a civilian to obtain a CCW permit here. If the hardcore liberals here had their way, guns would be banned completely.

Yep. Here is a picture of me with the first deer I shot. Everything in this picture was 100% legal to use on this hunt.

Wow a silencer. Thats a huge no no here.

Yep. Suppressor, 30 round magazine (comes out without needing to use anything but the mag-release button...), flash-hider, collapsible stock, etc. etc. That's just my deer rifle :)

Why CA is so anti-muffler makes no sense to me. I think it's a health hazard and terribly irresponsible to shoot unsuppressed when perfectly feasible. In many places in Europe, it's also very impolite and sometimes illegal.

This year, I'm planning on using a shotgun to harvest my deer. It will look near identical to this:

I am assuming that is a .223 chambered version of that rifle. (pic of you with deer)

The only large game that can be hunted with a .223 in WA state is cougar. Everything else must be .24 (6mm) or bigger. I typically use a .308 or muzzleloader for deer and 7mm, 300 H&H or muzzleloader for elk. Washington state has a very large elk population as well.

Yes. I used a 5.56 round. Worked great (expanded almost immediately, broke 3 ribs on entry, destroyed the left lung, blew a healthy hole through the apex of the heart, jellied a good portion of the right lung, broke 2 or 3 ribs, and exited). 100% legal in AR, to use my AR, lol. I would not personally try it on elk though!

I work in law enforcement, and commute everyday with a duty belt on. The Mazda seatbelt latch is pretty low, and hard to get around a holster even though I'm skinny, so I got this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Makes buckling up super quick and easy. Also makes it easy to draw my weapon both with duty belt and my CC off duty IWB.

I had to drive a F150 patrol truck across the state for a special event, and the same one for the CX-5 fit in that, so I took it. I forgot to get it out when I got home, and a bunch of other folks got to use it and are now all ordering them for their personal rides and patrol trucks. I plan to get a few as Christmas gifts this year for other folks. It really is night and day as soon as you use it.

That link above isn't searched for the CX-5 one. I actually ordered the one on Amazon that said 2016 CX-5, and the one I got won't fit. It fits in the back seat, and also in the wife's Mazda3 both front and back seats. So I went to the shops personal website and ordered:

If you check around on like retailmenot.com and other sites you can find coupons that bring the cost down to like $15. So worth it.

Genuine question. How much of that deer got eaten? Do you butcher it yourself or do you take it to a butcher?

I know question wasn't directed at me but I will say we eat all animals we harvest but we do have a butcher cut it up for us. No trophy hunter here. On years where we have taken a higher than average number we usually have extra meat made into pepperonis and sausage. The meat is so lean you usually have to add pork to it for the sausage and pepperonis.

Nice find.

Thank you for your service @BambooBen.

That's the type of attitude one should have towards Police. Essentially communication is key. Let me correct that, good clear transparent communication is the key. Both on the part of citizens as well as Cops. Putting a cop in a situation where he/she has to second guess then react is a big no no.

That said I don't carry a gun. I'm more of a McGyver guy who can take out 3 thugs with my wristwatch and dental floss.

27% of all statistics are made up on the spot. I looked and couldn't confirm your numbers but I did find this.
CA Guns per 100 residents: 1.8 Gun murders per 100,000 in 2010 3.4
DC Guns per 100 residents: 0.1 Gun murders per 100,000 in 2010 16.5
Kentucky Guns per 100 residents: 41.8 Gun murders per 100,000 in 2010 2.7
Wyoming Guns per 100 residents: 30.2 BTW, The lowest murder rate in the US Gun murders per 100,000 in 2010 0.9
West Virginia Guns per 100 residents: 15.4. Gun murders per 100,000 in 2010 1.5

Oh gosh, are you trying to tell me gun control might not be the answer?
