well first off gujustud (Amish) is great to deal with. he had a problem shipping it (not his fault, Canadas fault) and he let me know about it. and the battery tie down looks great especially with the mp3 oil cap also. but here it is. in all its glory. click the links for BIGGER picutres

I only saw MP3, MP5, & Protege...do they have one for the MSP too?

yes, he does offer one that says MSP on it, but I just opted to get one that says Protege on it for under the hood of my Mazdaspeed. it fits and looks great.

I'm a little suprised by the price. $50 seems high for just the tiedown. Looks like a really nice product but for the function and appearance it's a bit steep IMHO. Does anyone else manufacture a similar product blank for a better price? I was doing some searching but could come up with protege specific products.

if he is producing them a bunch at a time that is expensive, the onyl reason I see the cost could be that high is they look to almost be cad desgined cut aluminum? maybe laser cut? that could be the expensive part but once you have the design down it really should be that much for a strip of aluminum, i know how much work it takes to make those as I used to work with that kind of stuff all the time. Unfortunaely I dont have access to those materials and machines anymore so I have to buy all the stuff I could make myself, it sucks.

I saw that and was expecting a price of like 20-25 and when I saw 50

For that Ill buy a universal and custom paint it.

ok i looked through their site a little, so what they are saying is 50 for engraved and 45 for not, so they want 45 bux for a blank (yes anodized) battery tie down? LOL I dont care if it is aluminum laser cut anodized blah blah it is a battery tie down, does the same fuction as a steel rod.

eh whatever floats your boat, they obviously get business if they are still running.
edit: it turna out if u pay canadian you actually spend less, lol, the 50 american is about 70 canadian right now and thiers are 50US 65CAN

45-50 dollars does seem resonable considering nopi is sell battery tie-downs for the civcs that range from 42 to 45 dollars. Those battery tie-downs are from a major company too. I wouldn't be complaining about the price of gujustud's battery tie-downs. You should be thankful somebody is making these because that last time I look I don't think AEM, DC Sports or any other company is making battery tie-downs for the protege.

tru bu the point is it is a cosmetic mod that goes under the hood and unless u eneter shows most people wont see it. So 50 is a little steep for that kind of mod, I mean I know people want ti cause it looks good to them and all but we are talking about a piece of aluminum.

I know it is a decent price compared to industry average, but just because that IS the industry average doesnt mean everyone has to mark their products up that high.

Be like when I make angel eyes and it costs me 5 in supplies to make em, but I could charge 30-50 like most people. I wowuldnt, especially for fellow mazda owners, it would be enough for parts, work time and a little to make it worth my while, but knowing your product is good, used and loved is worth alot also. I mean look at DaveB, there is my hero =P

You have point also, I'm not sure how much he is purchasing the raw materials for and what it is costing to produce them also.

I'm not so much complaining that it is unfair price for the quality. I'm stating that it's out of my budget range for that type of mod. I can't help but think that $80(before shipping) for a tie-down and a oil cap could be much better spent elsewhere. They do look superb I would just have a hard time justifying $80 for something that ultimately sits there and looks pretty in a location people occassionally see. Still a great looking product I just might have to find something a little more wallet friendly:)

he is custom making all of these in his fathers machining shop so the price isn't that bad. this is no big company!

look at it this way, if you buy it then most of the people here will know the price and give ya props. especially if you got matching oilcaps too.

the pricing:

I hope you didn't take my comment as a knock on your product. Like I said. It's a great looking product. I'm just stingy when it comes to mods that have no performance gain and people won't hardly see if ever. However, if you were to start a group buy and send the folks south of the border a discount.............. then I will go find my CC and paypal account;)

BTW keep up the great work! Any other ideas in the works?

Amish,

Please stop talking and wasting precious time - you should be finishing off the 10 battery tie downs for us over at toprotege.com that we've been patiently waiting for...
