Mazda 5 GT 2006, Pearl White
New Mazda 5 owner in Toronto, Canada since Sept 06, GT model, pearl white. I'm getting snow tires next week from my dealer Ajax Mazda - package cost is $790.00 plus taxes and got them to throw in the step up bumper rubber protector. 4 snows - Good year Snow Tracker model with 4 steel rims.

What has everyone else gotten for their snows?.
Also anyone have the step up bumper guard installed?. Is it good?

See you around

We live in Markham too. Ours is a 2007 GT, Platinum silver with leather seat.

This forum has been a great resource for me. I have ordered my winter tires (17" Bridgestone Blizzak LM25) from Tirerack.com, after reading the input on the rims & tire threads. The price is certainly lower than what I can get from my dealer or even Canadian Tire.

Other upgrades that I have done include the sharkfin antenna (see http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123648476) and the iPod adaptor (see http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123648533). All inspired by the Mz5 community here.

Give me a honk when you see a platinum silver Mz5 with the sharkfin!

Alvin,

Not a bad price ( they've come down a bit since they quoted me!) I ended up with Pirelli Winter carving that I picked up from Gyro Mazda (I think they are largely responsible for the agressive pricing on Winter tires at Mazda Dealers this year!!!) for $773 + taxes!

I've not been much of a fan of good year tires for a long time now (just had too many bad experiences on them. They wear faster than I like, don't have good grip, and are VERY puncture prone!) For me good year tires have always meant quick replacement! I've had more failures on Goodyears than any other brand! Usually a flat tire that gets shredded by the time you pull over to change! Pirelli's have never done that to me! but everyone has different experiences!

Good luck with the Goodyears! If you see a platinum Silver 5 (w sharkfin) in Ajax, honk!

I'm not a fan of the Black bumper gaurd. I think it ruins the look of the back of the 5. I'm looking for some Clear heavy gauge vinyl to use instead.

The Blizzak LM25 that I got cost me quite a bit of $$ (US$136 each) but they are supposed to be premium tires. The Goodyear that tirerack.com has are priced at $89 each. I pay an extra $84 for shipping and $196 for customs. That's excluding the rims and installation. So I think you still have a good deal. The reason why I didn't go with the dealer package is I don't like the look of steel rims and don't want to downsize to 16 inch.

I got my sharkfin from http://www.sharkfinantenna.com. It took them 3 weeks to ship as they had to paint it according to the paint colour code I provided in the order. Installation was very easy. There is a step-by-step guide with pictures on the website.
