OK, I WILL get my car back tomorrow, but it will be with a stock clutch :( They sent the wrong pressure plate, so I am just getting everything else done and get the clutch put in when the new one gets here. I might go with a 6 puck disc now :)

I'm not really a transmission guy. What is a puck?

You know, I could've been immature and asked something like "What the puck is a puck?"

But seriously, what is it?

This is a puck:

This is a regular disc:

The puck holds more torque but is harsh and will really jerk you around hehe.

Puck holds like 348 lb-ft of torque, street disc holds like 268.

That sounds like it's going to be to way to heavy for the car...Day to day driving is going to suffer dramatically if you ask me. It's gonna be a pain to deal with the clutch pedal.

Why do you think you need such a massive clutch for??

Did you have a dyno of your car with all the mods you have. I just wanted to know what is the potentiel a the Protege in N/A configuration.

Not to throw caution to the wind, but too much clamping force can harm your tranny at high RPM clutch drops. So be careful and make sure that your tranny can handle it. If you have the money and wanted to be kind to your tranny, you could look into Tilton's Carbon-Carbon setup. It does cost quite a bit, but it will out perform and out last any other clutch on the market. Tilton Racing

Tranny is locked up, stuck in 4th gear. It is nothing I did, I am convinced our tranny's just suck. There are 2 more people with the EXACT same problem. maz2001mp (think that was the name) has a protege, same problem. webmaster from the protege website also had the same thing happen, and their cars are stock. Also alot of people are saying the car is hard to shift and the gears grind when shifting, which might be related to the lock ups. I smell a recall coming if this s*** keeps up.

Yeah I have noticed some hard shifting at times, also the trans seems to be bouncy sometimes. This is kinda intresting to hear, anyone else having problems? ever since i had my car I been up happy with my trans not being as smooth as I expected.

exactly the same of what u said. This is really keeping me from doing any mod to my car.

man i thought it was my driving at first, i thought i was shifting to fast and for just a milisecond i here a grind..never had that done before in my other standard carz...

If this is happening to our cars stock, what is going to happen when/if we boost them? This tranny problem and the fact that our engines can't handle too much power (at least that is what I am hearing) are exactly the reasons I am trading it in early next year. I can't believe I'm actually saying this! I've grown to love this car. :( But I can't afford to hook it up (which is what I'm all about), and have something catastrophic go wrong which I'm going to have to pay for out of my own pocket (concidering there's no arguing with Mazda if my tranny/engine goes and I have a turbocharger). :(
I am however, going to enjoy the hell out of driving it for another year :D I'm going to do a few mods (shown in my signiture) and probably sell them on ebay for cheap when the time comes. I hope all of these problems are fixable so I might not have to sell my car. Who knows? A lot can happen in a year.

we need to complain to mazdausa, cuz I have a hard time getting into first occassionally and i have to double clutch, i guess thats tje right term to get into reverse. I think we got suckered. Yeah i love my mp3, but not having the power to back the looks or handling pisses me off. a friggin' p/u almost beat me on an entrance ramp the other day. he let off about 90. i'm thinking about gettin a mini s 163 bhp w/ supercharger, traction control and stabilty control plus 18' wheels, just to name a few goodies. Yeah the only thing that is keeping me in my mp3 is i'm 1 of 1500!!

I love Cooper S too, looks awesome, i love the interior. But I just read a review of the car in a HK magazine called "Car King" (not sure of the English name) anyways, the reviewer had so many problems with the car such as the car dying after hard driving, the rubber strip in the windshield falling off and, actualy, i forgot what else. But there were 4 major problems listed, and only from a test-drive! I'm surprised at the bad quality, I hope it's because he got a lemon.
