Ground gremlins??

Same exact thing happened today. It's been one week since it happened last. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that my car pretty much just sits all weekend while I work on other cars.

I got some 4 gage wire to run that new ground as linux suggested, but I haven't gotten a chance to work on my own car just yet. Someday. :)

I think your car is jealous of the other cars you are working on.

Honestly, after the wire is cut, and has terminals crimped on the end, it is a 5 minute job. Get to work. (direct) To keep from needing a vice, or professional crimpers, go to Oriley's and get the $30 Giant chennel lock pliers. They give you the leverage to make good crimps of that size. The pliers also are great for removing stubborn oil filters.

I'll just use the vice. Going to try to do it tonight.

BTW, is this the wire in question?

if you wanna do the load test on the alternator, go to walmart, they have a tester that will test the battery, starting system, and charging system. Couldn't hurt
or bring it to me, because i dunno if you wanna trust just anyone working on your car! lol

LOL, damn those shifty wal-mart techs!

I really doubt it's an alternator issue, really. It has more of the symptoms of a ground issue, so I'll go that route first.

Somehow the ground behind my HU was disconnected. I was lucky that I was already in there, but maybe it'll be worth looking at. I noticed that b4 I reconnected it the headlights would dim badly, now they're not noticeable.

Ok. Rather than replacing that wire, I ran the new one as a supplement.

I'm still using the stock ground wire (except it's now on the next bolt over to the right), and I'm using the new 4ga wire that's going to the bolt where the stocker went.

yeah that ground wire from the pic looked pretty rough, lots of exposed wire... coulda been shaking around or whatever. Good thing you fixed it.

It seemed like it was in there tightly. Can't hurt to go 4ga though.

PS - I want to have hot sex with that guy in your sig. I can't wait to fall asleep.

Cranked up the car after work tonight...and the radar started making that weird noise again....

Turned it off and on, and it was fine.

Fortunately, the radio didn't turn off.

I was having very similar issues in my car and found it to be the main amp fuse on my vehicle (100a fuse under the hood). it was missing a bolt causing it to shift/short esp during wet conditions...

however one of the other symptoms were not being able to start the vehicle (due to the fuse not being properly locked in) and the alarm module freaking out. You may or may not have the same issue. But it would cause my radio to turn on and off as well as other little gremlins..

I would personally check all of your grounding BEHIND the radio, and double check all of your connections are tight and secured. Maybe something just rattled loose?

also how old is your battery? If its starting to show its age, it could just be highlighting other issues in the vehicle because its not carrying the correct current (which brings you back to the alternator as well).
