Grinding noise

I was reving my car and i noticed that after it gets around 4k RPM and u let off the gas, it makes a grindingish noise. I have not noticed this before, anyone know what it might be? mods are intake and exhaust

its either a vibration somewhere that only happens at that rpm or it could be rod bearings like my car had gone bad. or something else. listen to where it is coming from and have a friend bring the rpms up around 4k and listen and try to see where it is coming from.

you should try it on the road. once you are on a speed let go off the gas and cluth and see if you still hear the grinding sorta noise. if you can than damm i dont know how to help you because thats whats happening to my car. dont know where its comming from but from the looks of it maybe the tranny.

Well if you are hearing this noise with the car still I would say you can rule out brakes, axles, wheels, and anything else that rotates......it could be an exhaust vibration you are hearing if you have some kind of aftermarket exhaust....throw it up on a lift or some jack stands or whatever and get underneath and have someone else rev it and let your ears take it from there.....if you can figure out where the noise is coming from it will be easier to speculate what the problem might be.....

I'm with this guy ^, probaly an exhaust rattle, make sure all your hangers are in good shape and look for chaffing marks.

so i just brought my car to the dealership and they said it needed an additave in the transmission and it seems like its not grinding or anythig anymore

That's odd? But back to Wrath's question it's probably just the exhaust or cold air intake if you got one. Could be loose and needing some tightening. Good luck.

check your manifold heatshield and your mani to head bolts, mine made a crazy rattling sound a while back and i didnt know what it was, turns out the manifold tohead bolts were loose and the gasket was rattling back and forth
