Greddy Type-S BOV Knock-off Installed w/Video Clips

not sure if there are any meets, this website does not have a dedicated "socal" section for just speed3, its for all mazdas in the socal forum section.

Yeah I live around the corner from the Topanga Mall tho so if you see me around mine is silver with gunmetal painted stock rims.

yupp it was you! haha

a little follow up, we had to use the hose that came with the valve. the stock hose was a little short. take the stock hose out of protector and put the protector on the new hose.

i don't think everyone is doing this, but my stock hose was literally a hair short.
i also have no clamps on my recirc hose and it seems to be ok. there is a hose on the vaccum hose though

true true, I completely forgot about that.

how is it holding up, has it been adjusted to your liking?

Yes, I did the same my man. I installed a boost gauge a few weeks ago, so I just used the line that came with the BOV from the T to the bov itself. Easy as cake. I used small black plastic zip ties on the lines so they won't come loose.

BTW i can officially say the single spring mod worked. It has some of that greddy flutter that its supposed to, but now it has that BAD ASS whistle after it blows off. It sounds so awesome. very content and holding 15-16 psi solid is amazing.

good to hear. I am spiking at 18 and settling at the 15-16 range with mine. Any video of this whistle that you are getting? I have whistle but very faint

yea its faint, but at the same time, the guy riding in the car with me could hear it, so its audible. I love the sound, makes it sound aggressive. I messed with a 2g eclipse last night and he kept doing fly bys on me on the way home ( i was on the 4-lane coming up the mountain) and he went by me the last time, i put it in 4th, put the hammer down, hit about 95-100 mph and let off and when I did, he had his window down and the blow off echoed throughout his car...and at the next stop light, both him and his passenger looked over at the car, like WTF? haha. it was great. very much pleased with this blow off valve. Highly recommended.

good to hear that you like it. I would recommend it as well as a low budget bov/bpv that works just fine. There is a thread open now with a recirculated HKS that sounds just like this does.

flutter is not good, that is probably compressor surge. check the link that I posted above, thats what I did to mine the second day that I had it. But even with both springs in and installed it didnt make any flutter sound. But the first day I did turn the middle cylinder to match the hole. Check it and do that when you take out the smaller spring. The link will explain the differences in sound and why to do the mod and has pics of how to do everything.

Flutter doesn't mean compressor surge, it just means flutter. Many BOV's in recirc make a flutter noise as they release air. My RKM (HKS clone) makes a bit of flutter, but it is certainly not compressor surge.

haha I know nothing of what compressor surge is, i just guess and copy what others say! I guess it depends on what type of sound you get to determine compressor surge. Some guy at a shop listened to mine and there weren't any problems

yea see thats what mine was doing at first before I did the single spring mod and tightened it up a bit. No problems with it now.

I am considering this bpv but, i am pushing 17psi and holding. Spiking to 18. Will this hold that kind of pressure, will i just have to adjust it a little tighter? i think my stocker is leaking. i can hear it leaking off when i'm accelerating at wot.

The bov will be fine for that. You can feel the boost spike like that at 17-18 in that range but it holds just fine. I barely WOT the car except maybe sometimes getting on the freeway. But the bov holds up fine. I actually mentioned to the others about the single spring mod that truboost mentioned to me.

single spring is when you take off the top to rotate it anyways so that your vacuum line doesn't hit the hood, you will see 2 springs inside, you take out the smaller spring and put it back together. Just have to give the spring some break in time, but twist the screw on top after driving it a week or so and it will get to the right pressure/setting that suits you. But as for leaking I have no issues with mine and I have had it for about 2 months installed
