Greddy Type-S BOV Knock-off Installed w/Video Clips

sounds nothing like a type S should though like you said. but next time around I'll be buying a knock-off if I can't find a rebuild kit from greddy.

yeah I was mentioning that above, I truly LOVE the sound of the real type S I had one on my eclipse over 4 years back and it was the greatest sound! But yeah since they are discontinued its hard to find them and since the sound is so awesome and everyone wants them, they go for $150 minimum on ebay! I didnt want to spend over $150 for a used bov that could be 5 years old for all I know. Despite the fact this bov doesnt have the real Greddy sound/whistle, its got a serious whoosh and is pretty loud, much louder in person! Sounds actually like the Greddy Type RS does.

I would say that the VTA video is probably how it actually sounds recirculated in person. The video cut down the sound for some reason

i just got the same bov from a srt 4 kid for free. alll i need now is the adapter flang. now that i know how it sounds it make me want to install it even more.

Finished up mine today and was very, very pleased. Very easy install. Here is pics and sound clip.

I was going to let you know about this mod I did to mine that another guy with a real type s told me about. It's called the "single spring mod"

http://evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPath=1&tech_id=7&osCsid=4d11742b431fcfd2c71618974e5227be

It makes it a bit louder by releiving some tension. Take out one spring (the small one) and then adjust the top bolt down to keep pressure. Also check out the little vaccuum nipple thing as well. Since you had to take the top off and twist it around you push up the silver part in the middle and line up one of the holes on the outside of the midle cylinder to the vaccuum nipple that never gets plugged in. Adds to the sound. Try that as well!

man im kinda confused with mine, does yours make a flutter sound in person? I have mine recirculated as well and everytime i shift or let off, it makes more of a flutter noise. Is that perfectly normal or is it compressor surge? And if it is, how do I fix it?

flutter is not good, that is probably compressor surge. check the link that I posted above, thats what I did to mine the second day that I had it. But even with both springs in and installed it didnt make any flutter sound. But the first day I did turn the middle cylinder to match the hole. Check it and do that when you take out the smaller spring. The link will explain the differences in sound and why to do the mod and has pics of how to do everything.

im soooo down to try this out any links to where i can buy the bov?

just go on ebay, and type in "type s bov" there will be over 100 of these things out there in different colors. I got mine from a seller called "tunerzimage" for like $30 shipped

then to mount it go to street unit . com to get the ATP adapter flange for another $30 and you're set!

for sure man. i think ive seen you before driving around in the valley a while ago next to the mall near woodland hills sound familiar? anyways is their any ms3 meets going on around in the valley?

well to be honest, I bought the $42 blow off valve off ebay, it looks different than yours. Has a top adjustment and everything and really, I am confused by what your saying the middle cylinder to match the hole? I am really lost there. If you took pics, that would be sooo much easier. I took mine apart and clocked the top so the vacuum line wouldnt hit the hood and when I did, there was only one spring on the inside...one big one.

not sure if there are any meets, this website does not have a dedicated "socal" section for just speed3, its for all mazdas in the socal forum section.

Yeah I live around the corner from the Topanga Mall tho so if you see me around mine is silver with gunmetal painted stock rims.

do you see the link I posted from the evo forum about the single spring mod? it should show what the thing looks like when you take it apart, the middle piece to align with the outer hole, and what the springs look like.

it wont let me paste pics from the website but here is the link:

only difference between the fake greddy and the real one is the black diaphragm inside that you'll see. Tru-boost a member on here who had a REAL Greddy Type S showed me about that site, that's all I did and it works great! There will be less tension with the smaller spring removed so you have to twist the top screw down a bit to make the valve stay closed.

I am about to install one on phillyb's speed 3 in like 30 minutes, I'll let you know how that goes too

Alright phillyb just came over and we put the same bov/adapter combo on his car right now. It sounds just like mind, a nice loud whoosh!

Do the single spring mod, take out the smaller spring, and then align up the hole like in the picture on the link and it's all good. There was no flutter sound on his at all

idk flutter. really, i have no idea what that is.

but, they say you have to let these things break in or whatever.
so far, i can shift and hold boost. YAY!

hahaha, s*** is dope. good looks on helping with the install!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this blow off valve, very impressed. And i absolutely love how loud it is. I went past these kids on bikes today and drew out 2nd gear and shifted and one of the kids about wrecked his bike. haha. they was all starrin at my car. I love it!

Next on board...ordering my H&R Springs this Thursday, Getting my stock wheels coated flat black and getting the exhaust done on the 21st (july). Woot for birthdays!

good luck on H&R, they have been on national backorder for a long time now and should not be back uin stock in many places until August. So if you order them Thuirsday it will take a while before they are back in stock anywhere adn get shipped. I too have been waiting to order mine. Just waiting for them to be off backorder.

Back on topic tho glad to hear your thing works now, did you do the single spring mod and rotate the little hole? Your flutter is gone now? Wait until it brakes in, it will get louder over the new month.

One thing about this pic has me puzzled... Where's the gasket?? I assume it's turned towards the valve instead of the coldpipe, but doesn't the valve itself have a gasket as well? If so the gasket on the valve should make the seal againt the adapter and the gasket on the adapter should make the seal against the coldpipe, right? Something doesn't seem right to me about slapping that in the car the way it's pictured here.

the bov itself comes with a gasket that will go between the bov and the adapter flange. it appears by his picture if installed it upside down on the adapter flange. Here is the picture of my adapter flange... on one side is a black rubber o-ring gasked that is recessed into the metal and I put that side facing the hardpipe to act as a gasket since the other side has the gasket that the bov came with:

yea I reused the gasket that came with the blow off valve, and btw uhateit, i am going outside right now and do the single spring mod. Thanks for all the help thus far.
