Greddy Knob and boot

2014 Genesis Coupe R-Spec
I finally got the Greddy CounterWeight Knob, i love everything about it except that the shift boot does not sit flush with it. As in the diameter of the base of the Knob is smaller than the diameter of the boot

anyone with this Knob was upset enough by this to find a solution?

It is a pain. what I plan to do is as soon as finals are over, I am taking out the plastic piece that is glued to the boot and measuring it to the same as the knob then dremmel/cutting it then glueing it back to the boot and enjoy.

i bought a civic type r (yeah, i know) boot off ebay, and modfied it to fit the console. the advatange with the type r boot is that it has a grommet at the top the goes around the shifter shaft to finish it off at the top. i also have an OBX short shifter with the chrome shaft, so it looks pretty good. I'll try to get you a picture later today.

Here's my set-up.

I have this shifter and knob combo:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8064982056&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D8064982056%26fvi%3D1

And I added this boot:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8065108028&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D8065108028%26fvi%3D1

The Type R boot is bigger around at the base, so it requires some creative trimming to make it fit the Protege mounting ring. I just pulled the protege mounting ring off, slid the type r boot over it, and trimmed where it needed.

One thing you try is to get a plastic ring that has the same inside diameter but small overall diameter. Try Lowes or Home Depot and browse through their bins of plastic/nylon washers. I've seen some that would work. Take the stock ring or shift knob in with you to compare. For the VERY small knobs, you're not going to find something flush that would work because you still need some surface area to reattach the shift boot.

Good luck!

I have the GReddy weighted shift knob with my stock boot. I simply used a small "zip-tie" to sinch it down tight. I have a kartboy short shifter. I had a black zip tie but it broke when I removed my old shift knob and replaced it with the GReddy one.

You can only see the zip-tie from the back seat (if you look for it).

the old one was nice, custum stiching (PROTEGE) in silver and the material was much better than this one, it was just old :(

i have the same knob and will be ordering a SR shiftboot from ben at horsepowerfreaks.com. black with white stich. it dosn't have a wring on it so i plan on letting the top fold inwards on the skinny part of the knob.
