Greatest American?

i heard that, all though gov't provided, that canadian medicare sucks arse...is this true

Canadian medicare is the epitome of the standard. We started it and people model it after us. Because it's a completely socialist system, there are wait times that can't duplicate American private hospitals, but every single Canadian is treated with the same standard and regard. Every single Canadian has healthcare; no exceptions, no special treatment and nobody turned away.

All Canadians are offered free flu-shots every year...that much can 't be said for the US.

fkmitsu. wait times are disgusting, here.. you can be in emergency from 15minutes to 5-6 hours, depends on the day/doctors/nurses.
I mean, you gotta evaluate that our medicare is abused, like people that go to emergency for a runny nose or a cold (i say charge those people $50 for wasting taxpayers' money and doctors' time)
Also, healthcare is a provincial level thing, so it varies from province to province. Ontario has some of the leading hospitals in almost all fields, so i'm quite pleased with everything - although they can't figure out what's wrong with my sleepiness (been disgustingly tired/sore for 4-5 weeks now - went 2 weeks ago for tests, nothing came out - maybe i'm just THAT lazy)

Wayne Grekstky was #10 on our list... we love our hockey, but we see more than just that.

yeah.. to add to Gen1GT's comment...
how much does it cost to get a cast on your broken leg in the US?
it's free in Canada
how much does it cost to get a proper hospital birth in the US?
it's free in Canada
how much is triple-bypass surgery in the US?
it's free in Canada.

I mean.. I know 2 people that have had triple-bypass surgery, all went fine, and they didn't have to dish out a penny other than the medication afterwards (which is 80% cheaper in Canada, too :P )

there are lots of problems with it... but the same can be said for ANY free service.. people abuse it, and some of the people that deliver the service become bitter and do their jobs half-assed... nothing we can really do about those, that's just human nature.
As citizens, we also pay a hell of a lot more than Americans in taxes (chair)

ok, sounds alright. I just heard that if you had like a life threatening surgery that had to be done you had to wait for goy't approval or something.

you gotta wait in line.. we have more limited surgeons and more limited equipment than americans do... but if you NEED a triple-bypass surgery, you're bumped up to the top of the list.

like if i walk into emerg. and there's 20 people in line - and i've just been stabbed, I'm not gonna have to wait @ #21, they bump you up to the top.

but some cancer treatments or organ transplants (non life threatening ones) aren't nearly as fast as in the US. Cuz money isn't a factor, the rich have to wait as long as the poor do - only so many surgeons and so much equipment, not a million $$ will get to at the top of the list.

free is always nice...damn meanwhile my country is wasting millions on war....hmmmmm

Terry Fox - lost his leg to cancer and tried to run across Canada to raise awareness for cancer and raise money to find a cure
That reminds me. What's the name of that rock climber who got his arm stuck under a boulder and cut it off with a swiss army knife after being stranded for several days?

the only entertainer i can honestly understand is Frank Sanatra, ... wiht out him and the mob lovin him... there would be no vegas... at least not what it is today... and ironicaly... vegas is truly what america is...

Sinatra... but i couldnt agree more. If there was a place the captures the US in a nutshell id say its vegas.

Umm, no. The heart of America can be found on the streets of NYC. Vegas is our playground where people go to not be themselves.

i was saying more that we are a capitalistic society... and the nature of people in vegas or while thier in vegas is very much that of the big money makers or america.
