Great N/A Mods for the MP3

it just handled amazingly...and with the exhaust set-up and cams, the sound at idle was incredible. i had a guy at a red light turn his truck off so he could hear my mp3 idle.

oh dont forget, prolly more reliable (lol2)

ok well once again everyone needs to learn how to read, in my first thread i didnt say to buy the engine i said to buy the pistons and rods for a ze motor, then i mentioned the ze motor cause it is a real jspec motor with those pistons, also not ALL are obd1 the cars were prduced from 93 to 97, anything after 96 was obd2, i wasnt tryin to start a whole issue here ,guy asked for some tips, wagonbacker for some reason you ALWAYS like to start in on people in every thread. im not gonna continue with it.
Toper also has some good things to do a NA motor.

wait, what? who did I start in on!? wtf?

oh there are fsze motors that are obd2? thats good news.. i'd rather have 170 na vs 170 boosted haha

yeah, no kidding...the mp3 is still running strong (guy i work with bought it) and i've had to replace the turbo on the msp and the a/c is no longer working.

yeah i had my share of issues on this msp....

but again the turbos msp engine has better torque, but you can go to corskport and get all the parts to build your own fs-ze motor.

DUDE in every thread, anything anyone says you have a better idea, you always make a comment about something as if you know more than anyone on here. You may not try to do it but you do it and its annoying. you just always have some rebudle to anything and everything. nobody can have an opinion without you saying something.

I said NOTHING about a better idea, just different alternatives. The point I was trying to make was that the FSZE ecu is difficult to source, and going to a high compression setup without retuning for it isn't going to give you the same gains you would get with the FSZE, this has been discussed before. I dare say the general consensus is that NA, the FSDE doesn't make substantial gains from most mods. its a forum, as in the whole idea is exchange of information. I'm sorry you see me throwing my $.02 in as out of line, but theres a local mazda tech who built an MP3 with intake, exhaust, JDM intake cam, and stock intake cam moved to the exhaust side (flipped 180*)... and after he got the cam timing tuned, dyno'd it over 170hp.

granted, it wasn't exactly a smooth power curve... but its an accomplishment none the less.

putting an FS-ZE into a domestic protege requires a TON of work. the FS-ZE also generates more power due to their intake manifold.

the 626 intake mani will give you more top-end, but you'll lose the bottom end you have
as far as cams, if you can find some 'twiggy sticks' on the forum, those are VERY nice. i know protegegarage.com has some from integral cams...and there's always the cheaper jdm cams.
if you can find a 4-2-1 header, i'd jump on that...but an obx 4-1 will be cheaper and easier to find.
my old mp3 had an injen cai, obx header, catless with a side-exit exhaust, twiggy cams, 1.8L coils, UR underdrive pulley, awr front motor mount, eibach sportlines and a cp racing 3-pt strut bar.
i enjoyed that car more than i do my msp...but i had to see one or the other and the mp3, being cheaper, sold first.
if you're going to boost in the future, the higher compression pistons won't be a good idea.
If I'm unable to get my hands on some twiggy sticks cams and get the JDM cams will I get the same gains as I would with the twiggy sticks? its just the twiggy sticks are going to be better quality?
I really like your N/A set up your saying you had. any idea what you were pushing in whp with that?

the twiggy sticks were MUCH more aggressive. i had the jdm cams in my p5. i want to say with the jdm's you can expect around 10-15whp increase with supporting mods (i may be wrong, feel free to correct me) and the twiggy cams would give you 30whp with supporting mods and a good tune.

not sure about the power...it was no where near as fast as a stock msp, but it was a blast to drive.

I'm sure lovemyfs2003 will yell at me for starting in on you, but the JDM cams are good for more if you are OK with a pretty big peak on the power curve by timing them with cam gears, a 10-15 gain is reasonable if you're after more of a streetable power curve.
that said, I totally agree the twiggys are far more aggressive.

i could honestly care less what you say to anyone about anything buddy, all i know is i do not want your input on anything i ever say again, ( which is damn near impossible being that your on here 24/7) and dont say you did NOTHING, cause you tried to one up me and prove me wrong, and ill say this one final time, i never said to get a ze engine, but you could buy the parts for one, and that a ze does make that much power. im done with this arguement. i got my point across and im sure many others in the forum would agree.

sorry for sharing the facts that I've gathered, and opinions based on them. I'll be sure to keep a wide berth from you next time.. geesh.

Did you notice anything when you put the JDM cams in your P5?
Also is a underdrive pully a good thing to put on too?

yeah, the powerband with the jdm cams moves to the higher rpms. there is a very nice gain that you'll feel...they were well worth the money, imo. and the pulley is a good thing...it's nothing that you can 'feel,' but every little bit helps. i had the UR pulley and UR flywheel in my p5...that was a nice combo...although the fidanza is a lighter flywheel than the UR (9lbs vs 7lbs)...and i had to wait 2 months for my UR flywheel. if i couldn't get my hands on a set of twiggys, the jdm cams are a nice, cheaper alternative...sure, the gains are about half...but so is the price. you'll definately feel a difference with them.

How high of rpms? 3k? 4k? 5k? would they be ok for a daily driver? any loss down low?

they'll be fine...the powerband just didn't stop...unlike having your power die off around 4K rpms, you can keep your foot in the gas all the way to redline. all of my cars have been DD's...i've never had a problem. if there is a loss down low, it isn't much at all.
