235/40/18 much needed after 27,000 of hard driving. I am Really happy with the 235's instead of 215's. look better and no rubbing etc as some have rumured. With more patch excent grip I got a good deal too. Bridgestone Fusion rated to 170mph, traction -temp A, 320 treadwhere. $125 apeice out the door, They have exellent traction! especcially compared to the baldies I had on there...lol. I'll post some pics later.(drive2)

That's good to know, I'm in the market for some new wheels, and that's exactly what I'm looking for!!!!!!!

Do you have stock suspension?

This was on the stock (read: too narrow for a 235/40 tire) wheel?

Or do you have aftermarket wheels?

ive got the stock wheels, they run fine to me. no rubbing and tremendous grip! more patch means more grip. here is a photo, cell phone photo...so not as clear as it could be

My mom put Bridgestone Fusions on her 2003.5 silver MSP. Great tires for a great price. With a treadwear of 320, they should last a lot longer than the stockers that have a 140.

My concern is that the tire was made for a 7.5" to 9" (approx) wheel.

When you get the chance, will you post clear pics of this in different angles? A stressed tire due to a narrow wheel can be a performance-crusher, and I just wanted to address that.

yeah i'll take better pics later. if its not the best fit for track...maybe next time i'll go 225 but for regular driving they are great. definatly alot more traction. of course my previous where bald..

yeah some black rims would be cool but takes cash... that dollar definatly doesn't chase me down..:), maybe in a year or so, I neeeeed to sell more insurance!!

This was my concern:

What this means is that you have an inch narrower wheel then the tire was made for. I know a few people have done this, but I'm greatly concerned about this. I have voiced this opinion before, but it comes from experience.

This is why I'd love to see pictures in all angles.

yeha thats the tire, why are you conencered is it dangerous or something? all the people iv'e talked to at tire shops said it was no big deal

Well, its not a danger to the driver, but it does pose a slight risk to the installer. I would probably have hesitated to install them if the job was given to me, when I was an installer. But, aside from danger, there are other issues when the tire is wider then the wheel's design intent.

A primary concern I have is that the tire will not be as stable under quick maneuvers, and also may "squirm" around while cornering. This is just simple geometry and the physics involved in it.

A secondary concern is unusual tire wear due to the sidewalls being forced closer together then they were designed to be. This stress can cause excess wear on the tire, and may cause premature failure in the tire's design (but I don't have solid evidence on this to show you when it comes to our cars.) This stress should cause the sidewall-edged tread blocks to feather or cup very quickly.

Again, these concerns may be moot, but I can probably tell you a lot more with close, accurate pics.
