Just got it yesterday, and I love it. I didnt like the cylinder shape of the stock knob... especially because I have a KBSS. So the shape was all wrong. This just feels right in my hand, and it's not cheap feeling, its got nice weight to it.

Thanks, It's an upgrade knob for the Mazda6 (pn#GJ6A-V8-170-22). So yeah, it matches quite well.

about $61... but that's with discount. My mazda dealership offers an SCCA 20% discount.

so any shifter that fits a 6 will fit the MSP boot? i tried to buy a knob a while back and it sat like an inch up from the boot exposing the circular shape where the boot meets the stock shift knob along with the actual metal shifter itself.

Ok, my car has an MSP Kartboy Short shifter... which as far as my knowlege goes has the same thread pattern as the stock MSP shifter and the P5 for that matter... that being said. I based my decision on weather or not this would fit on the discription of it at www.protegegarage.com. Where it's stated that it will fit everything except the MP3.

Since I didnt pay for it (i traded for it) i decided to take the chance. It worked out just fine. It screwed right in place of the stock MSP knob. HOWEVER, it does sit a little higher overall... which I like. I think the MSP knob's cylindrical shape makes it feel funky when you have a short shifter, I personally prefer a ball shape. This knob makes me feel like my shifting is faster because i'm not constantly adjusting my grip.

As for the boot, it obviously doesnt push the boot down as much.. which is a good thing. I did end up making some velcro tabs to attach to the bottom of the knob and top of the boot ring just to secure it... useless really, but I did it anyway.

ok cool, see when i bought my MSP it came with a stock protege shifter which sat like 2 inches up from the boot, so i tried to get one of those discount auto parts type ones but that didn't work either. it sat about an inch off the boot (still exposing an inch of meta) i may be looking around for one of these 6 shiftknobs soon, hopefully it will wor.

on a side note, i went to gunther a hile back (gunther mazda in south florida) and they had these sweet shift knobs in a case but no one knew if they'd fit properly and the fuckholes wouldn't let me try it on... oh well

hey you're the spazchicken guy? i ordered 2 T's from you like 3 days ago... cool. the P5 SS won't fit our cars will it?

it will. I have the TWM P5 SS in my MSP. The threaded section is shorter, thats the only difference. The stock MSP knob will not fit, but I got a TWM weighted knob for free since they screwed up my order. I love it, and get compliments when other pro owners drive my car.

What you guys can do to keep the boot flush with the knob is wrap a rubber band around the shifter at the point you want the boot to reach, then thread the knob down tight. I did this with my MSP shifter/Mazda 6 knob in my 626.
