Ya, when I hit a deer last fall it was about $4K US damage to the car, but since it was comprehensive it was all cool. I wascrushed about it, but at least I spent the extra dough and added a few extras to the car! (wink)

Thanks guys. Yeah I know I can kiss anywhere near reasonable insurance rates goodbye, but at least I havnt gotten any tickets. I'm there with you maxx, I think I'm just gonna go ahead now and buy a few goodys Ive been thinkin about.

if you didnt get cited, insurance might not go up that much.

technically, without a citation, it wasnt your fault.....

I dunno man, those pics are kinda hard to judge by, but it looks like the whole front end of your car is twisted..this could possibly mean your car is totaled.....but hopefully I'm wrong.

As long as the frame is not damaged, a car is never really totalled. In some cases, the repair costs are so high that its best to declare it as 'total lost' to the insurances. Im not the kind of guy who will recommend to fix a wrecked car... According to your pics the damage are not that bad. Totalled is kinda big and the car were still driveable. Does the airbag popped?

Frame damage? WTF man, most every car nowadays is unibody...

This cas has a Triple-H frame which is three H-shaped sections. Its not unibody... (nuts)

Like any other unibody car, it has SUBFRAMES but the Protege is a unibody car. I've worked at a body shop for longer than I'd like to remember, so I know what constitutes a unibody car, and the Protege is.

Don't believe me? Tell me how you would take the body off of the frame on a Protege...

yeah P5 is unibody, you can tell by where the struts attach onto the car (strut towers i guess) it all smooths into the thing.

sorry to hear about your mishap, but it does happen, everyone gets into accidents, my car had $16 000 worth of damage (CDN of course) and the car was only 4 months old and it never drives the same anymore, my shifter is still outta place.

ok, I see it commin'... (bicker) NO way i'll play this (monkey2) game...

Is 'unibody' the same thingy as 'monocoque'(its a french word.. sorry I lack english skill) ??? As far as I know, 'triple' mean 'three' and 'uni' mean 'a prefix signifying one'. Its sounded weird that a tri-pieces structure would, indeed, be 'unibody'. Of course, I'm probly off-the-track here and, please, consider that english is not my primary language, so technical related terms can easily get misunderstood.

Is frame = car's 'skeleton' and body = car's 'skin' correct?
Its clear I need some teachin'! (lol2)

You people have taken my sympathy thread and turned it into some kind of wierd "productive" discussion about actual things that matter. ;) I think that unibody is the same as monocoque, but I may be wrong. You are right about the frame=skeleton and body=skin though.

Sorry ES2K3, but Unibody describes a car who's frame and body are one. That is to say, that the body itself forms a big part of the structural backbone of the car. And example of a vehicle that is NOT unibody is a pickup truck. (Even the new ones.) They still use a frame, with a body (cab and bed) bolted on top. Hope that makes sense.
