got a new Knob

when I was searching for shifter knobs on the net I ran across this company that makes all sorts of custom shifter knobs....and what I was really wanting was not anything really fancy or flashy....simple...yet a bit different for our cars...

I also had the notion to have something color coordinated to the car....but i had NOT found anything I liked.....till I found this place....

its as simple as you can really get....is a 1 7/8" ball....which is the same vivid yellow as the car....with the shift pattern in it...the company can make just about anything you can imagine....they do inlays....and you can even send them something and they can inlay that in the knob too! and very reasonable too.

take a peek

That looks cool! Do they make it in blue that you noticed? What about thread adapters? I have a red shift knob but the threads will not mate to the small shifter in this car?

Or what is the site and I can look...that is probably easier:)

norman....this company does all sorts of custom work...they can and will put ANY thread adapter in the shift knob you want...all you have to do is tell them what the thread size is....

also...they can do ANY color...if you even have some specific special paint....you can send them a sample and they will costom mix the batch to make YOUR shifter.....

go to http://www.epcomfg.com/ you can contact them though email and ask questions....but the OWNER personally answered my mail!! and was VERY VERY helpful....the advertised size of the knob I wanted was 2 inch...but I wanted one a little smaller...so I just asked..and he said NO PROBLEM...and there was no extra charge either....and the 1 7/8" is just right for my hand.

Show a side picture, I'd like to see how the top of the shifter boot mates up with the shifter knob.

as soon as I make the piece to go under the knob I will take and post a pic...

seeing as how the KNOB is only a sphere...and the STOCK knob is like a sphere that sits on a pedestal....well I am makeing that part to go under the knob out of a piece of 1" stainless steel stock....as soon as I get it done..not only will I take and post pics...I will post up a little drawing of the "adapter/pedestal" too.

I am thinking i MAY use brass...seeing as how once its polished its a YELLOW color....

LOL

Great choice of words SirNuke.

The SHIFT knob looks good. Is the 1 7/8" the same as the factory knob? I love the way the factory shift knob feels.

That looks sweet, too. I agree with everyone. I would love to see a profile view with the B&M

I never measured the stock shifter knob to see what the diameter of the top part is....but its a little smaller..not much...maybe an 1/8 of an inch....this is very comfortable.

Yeah I gotta say that I like your new Shifter knob(very important to qualify a statement like that!) :)

Right. Your fellow members will likely go down...er...get down on you....

Syzygy, you can BET THE BANK on it!! lol

well I just popped out the adapter/spacer piece on the lathe...and will install it when I get home....and take a pic or two and then take the all important side view you all want to see. :{D

Thanks for the link there SirNuke. They have some really interesting......spherical, cylindrical and flat items there made from various colors and textures of polymers.

I wanted to say they had some neat balls and rods but figured it would be taken the wrong way. :D

Norman...they make some pretty slick stuff in my opinion...I really liked the tear drop ones too....pretty cool.

well folks....I didn't like the way it looked...so I am NOT going to be taking pictures....insted I am making another one....a little differnt shape....the first try was only a straight cylinder....I am going to make it bell out at the bottom so that it meets and matches the stock boot better.......the first one ended up being just a TAD to long too.... oh well....I have more material! lol

I wonder

I bet it would look pretty cool to get some kind of funky Mazda (gull) emblem and have that crafted onto the shift knob. Something really trippy.

Might have to look into that.

one of the things that they can and will do...is inlay ANYTHING that will fit inside the diameter of the knob....you have an emblem...they can do it...something like a charm or lapel pin...they can put it IN the knob....pretty cool looking too.....then do more than just engraving of stuff on them like mine.

Good idea!

Nuke: I dunno how brass will look with our interior...personally I think it'd be a little off...

I love my stock knob...I think I'll stick with it 'til it wears. :-)

after thinking about it....you are right.....the brass would clash....so I stuck with Stainless Steel in a brushed finish...matches quite nicely....the first one I made was just a straight cylinder and I didn't like the way it looked....so I made one more bell shaped..its flared at the bottom to match up with the stock boot....it actually reminds me of the adapter piece that momo makes..... so as promised here is a side image to show you what it looks like with the B&M shifter.
